PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The role is responsible for providing daily technical support to the production team, ensuring compliance with agreed mining plans. It also involves monitoring and verifying the achievement of design parameters for pits, waste dumps, and other construction projects while maintaining effective communication with the mining and project execution teams. Additional responsibilities include developing realistic weekly plans, compiling production reports, and preparing Bench Operating Plans (BOPs).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Mining Engineering, with relevant professional certification or licenses.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Open Pit Mine Planning.
- Experience in short to medium-term Open Pit Mine Planning.
- Proficiency in Vulcan, Data mine Studio OP, Micromine Spry, Rapid Reserve, Microsoft Office Suite, and other 3D modeling and mine design tools.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Highly motivated, self-driven, and an excellent team player.
- Strong analytical thinking skills.
- Demonstrates an unwavering commitment to safety.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure that Safe Working Procedures are followed for all routine tasks
- Check achievement of NAF/PAF boundaries as instructed by the Engineer 3 – Open Pit Mine Planning.
- Demonstrate a teamwork-oriented attitude while performing his/her roles.
- Prepare and compile weekly plans for the respective pit in line with the monthly plan and present to the execution team.
- Prepare Bench Operating Plan (BOP) for both short term and long-term planning uses.
- Prepare Daily Dig Plans to required standards and issue to production team.
- Use Vulcan/Datamine to carry out short term planning design checks and changes as the pit design or stockpile design indicates and in close co-ordination with the Engineer 3 – Open Pit Mine Planning.
- Prepare and update spreadsheets for production analysis, evaluation of options and planning strategies.
- Assist in coordinating inputs from various sections e.g., geology, mining production, geotech and engineering for the preparation of production plans.
- Check the broken stock level in the pit and give timely feedback on any associated opportunities and risks.
- Monitor equipment performance on productivity and utilization and give feedback as instructed by the Engineer 3 – Open Pit Mine Planning.
- Be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety and encourage teamwork within the department.
- Performing check on various operational costs as instructed by the Mine Engineer 3 – Open Pit Mine Planning.
- Assist with preparation of the weekly and monthly Treatment Schedule, ensuring feed from Open Pit and Underground ore sources are strategically blended to achieve budget targets.
