The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) is a governmental body responsible for managing the Telecommunications and Broadcasting sectors in Tanzania. Established by the Tanzania Communications Authority Act No. 12 of 2003 to manage electronic and postal services and communication frequencies in the United Republic of Tanzania. The Authority came into operation on November 1, 2003 and operates the former Tanzania Communications Commission (TCC) and the Tanzania Broadcasting Commission (TBC).

OUR PURPOSE

Manage Electronic and Postal Communications services effectively; improve the performance of service providers and protect the interests of consumers of telecommunications services with a view to making our contribution to the development of the United Republic of Tanzania.

MAIN OBJECTIVE

Improve the lives of Tanzanians through effective, innovative and creative controls that ensure the availability of quality and stable communication services for all and that are provided at low cost.

MAIN STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

  1. To modernize TCRA activities using appropriate technology; strengthen quality research into controlled services, staff capacity and competence.
  2. Promoting efficiency; reliability and security of communication infrastructure and its use.
  3. To promote the efficiency and affordability of telecommunications services and increase access to Postal and ICT services in areas that are not adequately serviced and those that are completely serviceless.
  4. Protect stakeholders' interests and promote awareness of their rights and responsibilities.
  5. Monitor the performance of managed services and ensure compliance with the Laws and Regulations to the appropriate standards.
  6. Coordinate the implementation of national, regional and international sector commitments.
