Job Summary
Women in Law and Development in Africa Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF), is a pan African women’s rights network which is dedicated to promoting and strengthening strategies that link law and development to increase women’s participation and influence at community, national, region and international levels.

It was founded in February, 1990 in Harare Zimbabwe – following the NGO forum held within the context of the UN Decade for women- and, whose theme was “Women rights and Development: Network for Empowerment in Africa”. Since then, the organization has established chapters in 26 African countries, including Tanzania, constituting over 350 organizations and 3,000 individuals who share these objectives. WiLDAF has 20 years of experience and an excellent track record to advance women’s rights and their status in Tanzania. This is because gender equality is not only a fundamental right, but also a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.

Our Focus Areas of Intervention and Priority Programs:
1. Increased access to Justice for Women, Girls, And Other Marginalized Citizens
2. Reduced Gender Based Violence to and Violence Against Women and Children
3. Strengthened Women’s and Young Women’s Participation in Leadership and Feminist Movements.
4. Increased Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) And Bodily Autonomy
5. Enhanced Women Economic Justice and Rights
6. Strengthened Partnership and Institutional Capacity That Is Supported by A Good Governance Framework That Is Gender Inclusive and Sustainable

Project Summary:
WiLDAF will continue bridging the gap between formal and informal system through legal empowerment programs so that women, girls, and other marginalized groups are able to access justice. We will promote a coordinated response, by bringing together justice providers, women civil society organizations, human rights defenders and local communities to collaborate towards gender-responsive justice. We will advocate strengthening of criminal justice to ensure effective response services for women, girls and children who are abused and discriminated.
WiLDAF will continue with advocacy work regarding amendment of discriminatory laws which infringe women’s access to justice and will continue advocate for the review and/or enactment of gender responsive laws. This includes among others the following laws:
1. The Law of Marriage Act, 1971
2. The Customary Laws of Inheritance,1963
3. Domestic Violence Law or Comprehensive gender-based violence law
4. The Citizenship Act,
5. The Political Parties Act
6. The National Election Act
7. The Election Finance Act

Further, we will advocate for the ratification and domestication of sub-regional, regional and international human rights instruments. Some of these international instruments include among others;
1. Ratification of the Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 -ILO Convention190
2. Country Program Document-CPD
3. Development of Convention against Gender Based Violence

Duties and Responsibilities
Accountant (Volunteer) will be responsible for maintaining sound financial and accounting systems and controls for WiLDAF Tanzania. The role entails performing day to day financial accounting tasks including, processing payments, filing and document retrieval, providing data for report preparation and data input, budgeting, financial accounting and reporting of assigned grants.

Others Duties and Responsibilities will include;
• Posting and processing journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded
• Updating accounts receivable and issue invoices
• Updating accounts payable and perform reconciliations
• Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines
• Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned
• Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
• Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
• Assist senior accountants in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings
• Assist with other accounting projects

Education Other Skills Required
• Bachelor degree in Accounting and Finance or related field
• Qualifications (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) is a plus but not required
• At least one year working experience either full time or internship

• The successful applicant will display the following:
• Proven experience as a junior accountant
• Excellent organizing abilities
• Great attention to detail
• Good with numbers and figures and an analytical acumen
• Good understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant computer software (e.g. SAP)
• Qualifications (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) is a plus but not required
