JOB DETAILS:

A LITTLE ABOUT US
Since 1951, The Nature Conservancy has been doing work you can believe in protecting the lands and waters that all life depends on. As a science-based organization, we create innovative, on-the-ground solutions to our world’s toughest challenges so that we can create a world in which people and nature thrive.
We’re rooted in our Mission and guided by our Values, which includes a Commitment to Diversity and Respect for People, Communities, and Cultures. We know we’ll only achieve our Mission by hiring and engaging a diverse workforce that reflects the communities in which we work. Whether it’s career development, work/life balance, or a rewarding mission, there’s lots of reasons to love life #insideTNC. Our goal is to cultivate an inclusive work environment so that all of our colleagues around the globe feel a sense of belonging, and that their unique contributions to our mission are valued.
We are tackling climate change, conserving lands, waters and oceans at unprecedented scale, providing food and water sustainably and helping make cities more sustainable. The idea behind our Blue Bonds for Conservation strategy is simple: transforming debt into conservation action. In support for a country’s commitment to protect up to 30% or more of its coastal waters, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) sets up deals using a portfolio of financial mechanisms such as debt restructuring or issuance of new debt, directing new resources to protect reefs, fisheries, coastal wetlands and other ocean habitats.
Your Position with TNC
The Blue Bonds Strategy Advisor assists in the development and implementation of a key global strategy at TNC – Blue Bonds for Ocean Conservation. This one of TNC’s newest innovative solutions, supporting island and coastal nations to use innovative financial mechanisms such as restructuring debt to create long-term sustainable financing for marine protections, sustainable economic development and climate change. The Blue Bonds Strategy Advisor helps drive the development and implementation of the overall business plan to achieve planned marine conservation outcomes. They connect the work between several internal strategy teams including NatureVest, External Affairs, and TNC’s regional marine conservation programs in the Caribbean, Africa and Asia, to support coordination and implementation among the site-based projects. They report to the Director of Global Ocean Protection. * The location for this position is negotiable within countries where there is an existing TNC office. No relocation or immigration assistance is offered with this position.
Essential Functions
The Blue Bonds Strategy Advisor supports the strategy leadership by managing priority projects and workstreams and serves as a technical resource on relevant global strategies including supporting complex negotiations and financial structures needed for Blue Bonds projects. They serve as a key liaison and informational contact between the global strategy team and other TNC staff, as well as external actors, including government agencies, corporations, NGO, and other groups as applicable. They track and/or assess corporate practices, governmental policies and decisions, and/or the practices or views of other stakeholders concerning the Blue Bonds strategy and priority projects and their potential impact on organizational conservation goals to make recommendations for adapting the strategy. They advise TNC communications, marketing and philanthropy staff on issues related to the global strategy or priority project(s) and related issues and help ensure that TNC’s internal and external communications accurately reflect the strategy and conservation goals. They may act as expertise outside of their team on other priority strategy teams within TNC.
