JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose:
Use a combination of statistical analysis, machine learning, data visualization, and programming skills to extract valuable information from data. Design and implement predictive models or intelligent algorithms to better understand the drivers of business performance and enable improved management decision-making.

Main Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning
Create and lead the implementation of NMB’s data science, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning strategy.
Leading in implementation of data science techniques in analyzing and interpreting large volumes of data to uncover patterns, trends, and relationships, and using those insights to make informed decisions or build predictive models.
Create strategies that will drive the use of data for personalization, drive behavioral incentives, risk controls, and proactive fraud detection.
Ensure utilization of advanced analytical methodologies and intelligent algorithms in all parts of the banking businesses and operations.
Explore how data can be used towards building solutions that are innovative, creative and drive change.
Data Modelling
Lead the understanding of state of the art and emerging principles and techniques in different disciplines of data science, e.g., NLP, Deep Learning etc.
Implement modern deep learning frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch, MXNet, etc).
Guide on machine learning algorithms that can find deep patterns and insights in large amounts of information, that are beyond human capabilities.
Apply underlying theory, principles and application of machine learning models.
Fostering teaching a broad and wide audience on these underlying principles and theories.
Implement data science processes like problem formulation, data collection, data preprocessing, exploratory data analysis, model selection and training, evaluation, deployment, interpretability, regular updates and maintenance.
Lead a variety of algorithmic product implementations leveraging core algorithmic data science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence capabilities to drive measurable business impact.
Hands on developer of internal models/processes, such as machine learning models, numerical optimization, statistical significance testing, ML -as-a-service API development and streamline event data processing.
Ensure appropriate machine learning algorithms or statistical models are chosen, based on the identified problems, and data available with key considerations on interpretability, scalability and complexity.
Stay up to date with the latest data science research and how it can be applied to NMB bank.
Adopt ethical Artificial Intelligence& Data science design principles that are morally right and socially responsible adhering to the bank’s data governance, data privacy, policy and frameworks.
Data Platforms
Provide guidance and recommendations on appropriate system solutions, modeling approaches, and associated risks for a variety of business problems.
Oversee the implementation of advanced data platforms, like Data Lake responsible for processing, analyzing and storing unstructured and semi-structured data like text documents, images, transactions logs and videos, to enhance the overall bank’s data architecture.
Implement real-time analysis capabilities which will allow the bank to provide real time services and a personalized user experience.
Oversee data visualization tools that intricates data into coherent visual formats like customer 360, precise marketing, real-time risk control dashboards, operation dashboard, management dashboards.
Research and explore on open distributed architecture with the focus to decouple software’s from hardware, empowering processing capabilities for massive amounts of data and supporting linear data platforms expansions.
Explore artificial intelligence platforms that provide infrastructure, tools, and algorithms to develop, train, and deploy machine learning models, that can be used by data scientist, analyst, developers.
People Management
Ensure the development of a high- performing team through embedding formal Performance appraisal and informal coaching.
Hire and continue to build a world class Data Science Team.
Determine and analyze training and development needs for people. Ensure that identified training is budgeted for and executed
Establish and maintain a succession plan for the key roles in the area
Develop appropriate employee opinion survey action items together with the management team of the business unit and ensure that items are executed
Motivate employees in the department and ensure that their efforts are recognized

Knowledge and Skills:
Experience in data science, machine learning and deployment of developed solutions
Business analysis and requirements gathering
Reproducible coding experience
Working with relational and non-relational databases
Experience in at least one Machine Learning language
Working in cloud environments
Working with multiple teams to deliver predictive models into a production environment
Stakeholder management at Executive and senior management level.

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science with a focus on Machine Learning,
Master’s degree in data science is an added advantage
Atleast 5 years of experience in Data Science, or Data Modelling, Statistics role
Experience in algorithmic product development, with a history of successfully driving measurable business impact will be an added advantage.
Expertise in Python, SQL, and Spark. Additional software experience preferred ie Docker.
Expertise in a broad array of machine learning frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch, MXNet, etc).
Expertise in Real-time Personalized Recommender Systems (Ranking, Reinforcement Learning, Candidate Generation etc).
Experience operating on AWS with large datasets.
Experience with streaming data architectures.
