About the Role
The Workshop Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the workshop operations, ensuring the fleet’s optimal performance and minimal downtime. This role involves leading a team of skilled technicians, coordinating with procurement, stores, and operations departments, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to streamline processes for maximum efficiency.
Responsibilities of Workshop Manager
• Oversee the maintenance and repair of the company’s fleet, including trucks, trailers, and support vehicles.
• Collaborate with the maintenance planner and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce breakdowns and ensure fleet reliability.
• Analyze and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues.
• Supervise the end-to-end workflow: from checklist creation, job card management in SAP, parts requisition, and procurement to job card closure.
• Monitor and ensure adherence to turnaround times for minor and major repairs.
• Ensure proper documentation and updates of all repair activities in the system.
• Collaborate with the procurement department to ensure timely sourcing and delivery of parts.
• Conduct periodic audits of the workshop’s inventory to maintain optimal stock levels.
• Establish and maintain relationships with parts suppliers to negotiate favorable terms and ensure quality.
• Lead, train, and mentor workshop supervisors, technicians, and support staff.
• Set performance goals and conduct regular evaluations to ensure team productivity.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Enforce strict adherence to HSE standards within the workshop and surrounding areas.
• Conduct regular safety drills, inspections, and hazard assessments.
• Address and resolve any safety concerns promptly.
• Generate detailed reports on fleet standing time, workflow efficiency, and parts usage.
• Analyze data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Present recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making.
• Evaluate workshop processes and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency.
• Stay updated on the latest technologies, tools, and methods in fleet maintenance.
• Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.
Qualifications & Experience of Workshop Manager
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in workshop management or a similar role, preferably in the logistics or transport industry.
• Strong understanding of fleet management systems, particularly SAP.
• Proven leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Comprehensive knowledge of HSE standards and regulations.
• Proficiency in analyzing data and generating actionable insights.
Key Competencies:
• Technical expertise in heavy-duty vehicle repair and maintenance.
• Strong decision-making and time-management skills.
• Proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
