Who we are
Tanzania Development Lightening Initiative (TDLI) is a non-governmental and non-profit making organization. TDLI is registered under the Non-Governmental Act No.24 of 2002 with a national wide operating licence.
TDLI has a Vision: a society with people centred development, equality and justice.
Today, most marginalized communities in Tanzania live in extreme poverty where women, children and people with disability are victims of inequality and injustice of different forms. Our Strategy explains what TDLI will be doing to contribute to addressing those challenges, complementing efforts by the government and other development players towards a sustainable and just society without poverty.
With our head office in Dar es Salaam, we are currently implementing education programme in Mwanza where we work with local communities and selected schools to support access to education for underprivileged children particularly girls. From April 2019, the Organisation will start working in Dodoma as another target region in efforts to contribute to increasing access and quality of pre- primary and primary education.

Location: Based in TDLI Head Office in Dar es Salaam.
Job Purpose
The Finance and Administration Officer (Volunteer) will be responsible for providing effective and efficient financial and administrative services. The job holder will provide support to the Executive Director to ensure the financial integrity and prepare financial plans and reports for the projects implemented by TDLI as guided by national laws, organisation policies and best practices.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General ledger
• Process payments by preparing payment vouchers and posting them in cash book.
• Ensure organization control systems of cheques, approval, etc to be completed before payment, adjustment or receipt of funds is made.
• Post transactions in the general ledger, and maintain subsidiary ledgers.
• Maintain fixed assets Register and maintenance for TDLI Offices.
OPERATING AS A CASHIER
• Write cheques from payment vouchers which have been duly approved and issue them to appropriate parties concerned.
• Hold and maintain petty cash imprest of the organization and ensure timely retirement of the same with proper supporting documents.
• Carryout banking of the Organization’s revenues received according to laid down rules.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
• Ensure office is well kept and provide conducive environment for workers to the best standards of office operation.
• Ensure office cleanness and smartness including proper arrangements of furniture, repairing broken furniture’s.
• Coordinate office consumables including water, teas, electricity etc.
STORE MANAGEMENT
• Receive and issue office supplies.
• Maintain register for stock movement while maintaining FIFO rule.
• Undertake physical stock taking quarterly.
• Setting stock levels and ensure timely replenishment.
REPORTING:
• Monitor all projects expenditures and provide quarterly budget implementation reports for internal management according to the work plans.
• Prepare monthly cash outlay forecast and submit to Executive Director for management purposes based on the work plan.
• Maintain office filling system for both finance and administration
TECHNICAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
Essential
• Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Business Studies or related discipline.
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience in project accounting.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and personal organization skills.
• Computer skills, including sound knowledge of Microsoft office and Excel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Applications.
• Very good communication skills (speaking, report writing and presenting in English).
• Computer literacy.
• Proven analytical and conceptual thinking, basic research, project management knowledge and skills and experience using participatory tools and methodologies for assessment, programme identification, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
• Knowledge of, and experience in working with donors.
DESIRABLE
• Language, Kiswahili comprehension.
• Experience or knowledge of Tanzania dynamics.
