Marie Slopes Tanzania (MST) is the Non-Governmental Organization duly registered under the law of Tanzania, and it is centered in a marketing-focused, results oriented social enterprise, which uses modern management and marketing techniques to provide family planning, reproductive and sexual healthcare and allied services. MST is a member of the Marie Slopes international (MSI) Global Partnership, which operates in over 46 countries worldwide. MST goal is to improve quality oi life in Tanzania by dramatically improving access to and use of family planning, and other reproductive health services.

GENDER EQUALITY ADVISOR

Purpose:
The Gender Equality Advisor (The Adviser) will be a Key member or the Health Services room and will be responsible for the promotion and integration of gender awareness and gender equality within MST and its programming. She/he will support MST to promote anti prioritize gender equality and tomato empowerment in its delivery of sexual anti reproductive health (SRH) services throughout Tanzania.

The Advisor will shape MST’s awareness raising and service delivery strategy, activities and resources to ensure that accessible information is provide to young people. women, men, their families and the local community to facilitate safe access to SRH care from MST. She/he will also hero to increase community awareness of gender equality and SRH among young people and women, by establishing strong linkages and fostering collaboration between MST and other development partners, civil society organizations (CSOs), influential actors, local leaders and Community based organsations (CBOS) community groups within MSTQ areas of work

Gender Equality Activities Design, Planning, Budgeting, implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Work closely with HR and Support Office departments in ensure that all staff understand the importance of achieve gender equality
  • Work with marketing, projects and operations departments to develop gender sensitive and gender transformative resources and approaches to awareness raising and service delivery 
  • innovate, design and oversee cost-effective community activities which will address negative socio
  • cultural and gender norms, and combat stigma related to reproductive health including family planning and create positive image within the community
  • Develop close collaboration between field staff and CBMs and CHWs to conduct community dialogues and educative session which myth and misconceptions and gender barriers to accessing family planning services and information.

Gender Equality Advice and Support;

  • Act as the key adviser on gender and gender equity strategy within the organization and with relevant stakeholders
  • Provide technical expertise to the Project Implementation Team (PIT) to ensure gender equality is considered in discussions and decision making
  • Assess the needs of MST departments and their deliverables, and tailor appropriate gender equality approaches and solutions in a manner which is collaborative and client-focused.

Research, Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Work with research team to design and implement innovative engagement techniques and research methods with capture the varying community views, perceptions or practices in relation to gender to strengthen programming
  • Work with M&E team to develop gender quality and SRH services indicators and tools to track accessibility of services, which will be used to assess the baseline and regularly measure outputs, outcome, and impact of MST program and activities in relation to gender
  • Work with Research and Monitoring & Evaluation teams to capture, document and snare lessons learnt, testimonials, and case studies to improve gender equality throughout MST and its programme activities.

Engagement in MST Gender Equality Advocacy activities

  • Work with External Relations & Marketing team to develop gender sensitive transformative materials for promotion, awareness and sensitization around SRH
  • Assist the Project Managers in designing planning and implementing gender advocacy strategy, activities and behavior change and communication campaigns for both stakeholders and the community.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor and/or Management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree in Social Sciences (e.g. Gender & Development, Project Management, Development Studies or equivalent Qualification). Master’s degree in the related field will be an added advantage;
  • 5 years hands» on experience in advocacy for gender issues and evidence-based results in gender analysis and Mainstreaming especially in institutions which deal with health services provision;
  • Significant experience at working with gender issues is required with some experience is relevant social
  • economic and gender analysis frameworks;
  • Strong ability to design, implement and evaluate gender mainstreaming options for promoting accessibility oi SRH services for WDYWGH and adolescents;
  • 5 years’ experience in working with youths, women and their groups;
  • 5 years’ experience in participating and/ or engaging in research, monitoring and evaluation activities with strong experience of designing/overseeing M&E design for gender / monitoring gender indicators;
  • Strong experience in designing, adapting and facilitating training for adults and developing Training of Trainers to rcill out training across MST;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent lobbying and advocacy skills;
  • Ability to motivate teams;
  • Excellent oral, written and multi-media communication skills in English and Swahili;
  • IT literate
  • strong competency in MS office applications.
