Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative (FAOR) of URT, and direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme), and working closely with the National Fisheries Sector Coordinator, the Junior National Fisheries Specialist will support the implementation of the above mentioned projects in country. S/he will also report to the FAO HQ coordinator and LTO of the FMM project, collaborating closely with project staff and consultants.
Technical Focus
• Assisting in the delivery and reporting on activities in support of SSF Guidelines implementation under the two projects cited above.
• Assisting in delivery and reporting of the activities on the EAF under Component 2 of the the SWIOFC-Nairobi Convention project referred to above.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Support the implementation of activities of the three project through collaboration with the relevant project and government institutions personnel, including;
o Assist in the drafting and monitoring of LoAs for the activities to be implemented by different Service Providers
o Assist in organising and delivering trainings and workshop;
o Participate in project field activities;
o Assist in activities communicating on and promoting the visibility of the project;
• Prepare draft project reports of project activities, as appropriate;
• Assist in ensuring coordination and synergies with other related initiatives and projects;
• Perform other related duties as required.
Candidates Will Be Assessed Against the Following
Minimum Requirements
• University degree in Fisheries Science, Biological Sciences, Social Science, Development Studies or related areas
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in fisheries policy, management and/or, ecosystem approach to fisheries, and rural/community development
• Working knowledge (level C) of English and Swahili
• National of Tanzania

JOB DETAILS:
GRA-TZ, in partnership with WeForest, is planning to implement a four-year initiative called the Butiama Hillside Forest Restoration Project, re-greening the surrounding landscape in Butiama District starting in 2023. This project will focus on nurturing hillsides to return to forest and increasing the tree cover in the wider landscape. Forest restoration will be done by assisted natural regeneration on the hillside and the introduction of woodlots and agroforestry systems in the buffer zone of the wider landscape, that will improve the livelihoods of the local population. Implementation of activities in the forest and farming landscapes will include training, technical and governance support and monitoring. WeForest is the main donor for the project and will provide technical and programmatic guidance and support through the life of the project.
Role
The Agroforestry Extensionist, is one of three Extensionists, who will assist in implementing all aspects of the agroforestry component of the project. They will report directly to the Agroforestry Coordinator and assist the other Extensionists, M&E Officer and the Nursery Manager. They will be responsible for assisting to develop, implement and evaluate core aspects of the agroforestry program.
Responsibilities
Core duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Implement all agroforestry and woodlot intervention activities within project villages
• Identify and organize farmer groups in project villages
• Organize and conduct training workshops for farmer groups directly or in partnership with other organizations
• Assist in the development of locally-appropriate training materials in English and Swahili
• Assist in M&E processes and conduct surveys in coordination with the Agroforestry Coordinator and M&E Officer
• Assist in value chain development for selected cash crops
• Assist in processing administrative requests/documents
• Assist in procurement of all items for the agroforestry program and tree nursery
• Produce quality deliverables on time
Required Qualifications
• Diploma in agroforestry, agriculture, forestry, rural development or equivalent
• A minimum of two years’ relevant work experience with smallholder agroforestry, preferably in Tanzania
• Excellent project skills and experience with workplans, M&E, training, and reporting
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work with stakeholders from different backgrounds: local communities, technical and non-technical and international partners
• Fluent in English and Swahili (speaking and writing)
• In possession of a driving license and experience with driving motorbikes and vehicles
• Able to re-locate and flexible in terms of work hours and living conditions
• Must be a citizen of Tanzania
