JOB DETAILS:
The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Seeks Data Manager for Support of Laboratory Strengthening in Tanzania In Tanzania, ASM is supporting the NHLQATC and zonal and regional microbiology laboratories to improve capacity to detect and report antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and to strengthen laboratory capacity to diagnose/ detect priority diseases for surveillance. ASM is seeking a qualified Data Manager to work as a consultant in Tanzania at the NHLQATC. The individual will provide data management support to ASM and the NHLQATC in Tanzania under the guidance of the ASM Senior Program Specialist (SPS) and Program Specialist (PS) who manages ASM Tanzanian program. The ASM SPS and PS are based at the ASM headquarters in Washington D.C. .
Overall Responsibilities
The Data Manager provides data management support to the NHLQATC, zonal laboratories, and regional
laboratories in Tanzania under the guidance of the ASM Senior Program Specialist (SPS) and Program
Specialist (PS) who manages ASM’s Tanzanian program.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Manages all incoming data from the zonal and regional laboratories to the NHLQATC and ensure
• results are disseminated to ASM and MOHCDGEC as instructed.
• Support data analysis of collected data including the developing of data reports and ensures results
• and reports are disseminated to ASM and MOHCDGEC and stakeholders as instructed.
• Review data for inconsistences that could skew analytical results.
• Streamline data collection and analysis procedures and disseminate procedures to laboratories to
• ensure fast access to metrics.
• Provide sites with guidance on how to create internal hospital aggregated reports
• Work with zonal, regional and district laboratories to enforce data quality standards and proper data
• collection policies and procedures.
• Fosters and cultivates high-value relationships with all relevant Tanzanian Ministries (Ministry of Health, Office of the Prime Minister, etc.) and other active and potential stakeholders
• Attends local, regional and international meetings, as required for data management
• Assists in the development of data reports and presentations for ASM, NHLQATC, CDC, and stakeholders as instructed.
• Coordinates data meetings and takes meeting minutes, which may include disseminating materials as instructed.
• Provides in-country assistance to the PS
Preferred Qualifications
• Master of Science in Field Epidemiology and Laboratory management (FELTP – Lab track), Management Information Systems, or related field is required. Relevant education and/or project work may count toward experience.
• Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili is required.
• Thorough and proven understanding of the principles of data management, data analysis, data utilization and administration.
• Ability to design, modify, and oversee complex databases, data warehouses including data flow to ensure data quality, accuracy, security, and usability.
• Familiar with modern databases and IT systems and how they work.
• Proficient at digesting and analyzing large sets of epidemiological data.
• Proficient at developing data visualizations, interpreting, and communicating data analysis with scientific accuracy.
• Work experience in resource-limited countries, preferably with an in-depth knowledge of the Tanzanian microbiology laboratory network.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in data management role, preferably in an international NGO
• Proven ability to work in a team environment and strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills
• Valid passport
• Proactive with a commitment to quality and accuracy with close attention to detail.
• Effective oral and written communication skills in an environment requiring diplomacy and good judgment in managing interactions with individuals at all levels inside and outside an organization.
• Able to prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure with frequent deadlines.
• Reliable and enjoys working in a multi-cultural, cross-functional team with flexible and adaptable approach to work.
• Ability to work without close supervision.
• Strong computer literacy, with excellent typing, MS Word, and MS Excel skills.
• Ability to travel on occasion.
