JOB DETAILS:
The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Seeks Information Technology (IT) Support Consultant to provide technical assistance for laboratory strengthening efforts in Tanzania In Tanzania, ASM is supporting the NHLQATC and zonal and regional microbiology laboratories to improve capacity to detect and report antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and strengthen laboratory diagnose/ detect priority diseases for surveillance. ASM is seeking a qualified IT support consultant in Tanzania to provide IT-related technical assistance to laboratories, and data manager under the guidance of the ASM Senior Program Specialist (SPS) and Program Specialist (PS) who manages ASM Tanzanian program. The ASM SPS and PS are based at the ASM headquarters in Washington D.C. .

Responsibilities
• Provide hardware and software installation and configuration support;
• Testing and evaluating new technology;
• Conducting electrical safety checks on IT equipment;
• Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks, including repair and replacement of parts;
• Maintaining safe work environment by following standards and policies;
• Maintaining good rapport with client/ staff by listening to and resolving concerns; answering questions either face-to-face or over the telephone, to help set up systems or resolve issues;
• Troubleshooting and repairing network outages and testing network back-up procedures;
• Providing support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports;
• Following diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a system;
• Supporting the roll-out of new applications;
• Setting up new users' accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues;
• Responding within agreed time limits to call-outs;
• Prioritizing and managing IT helpdesk cases one time;
• Establishing a good working relationship with customers and other professionals.
• Act as Liaison between laboratory/ testing sites and Telephone Operating Company Vendors
• Provide technical expertise to assist in networking & server support/maintenance needs
• Develops and maintains user instructions and guides; provides training to users’ one on one and occasionally in a group setting.
• Ensures that patches, software updates, and virus definitions are applied in a timely manner
• Limited travel and visit to remote sites to train and troubleshoot software errors and other non-standard reports by users
• Other duties as assigned.

• Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
• Team player
• Experience collaborating with Implementing Partners

 

Experience:
• Proven IT experience, specifically the installation and use of hardware and software database,
• Good grasp of Hardware installation/setup and maintenance (Assembling a desktop computer, Installing Operating System, Local Area Networking)
• Good grasp of front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, jQuery etc.
• Graphical UI/UX Design Skills
• Strong SQL knowledge and familiarity with MySQL or PostgreSQL
• Experience in developing web based software applications with PHP (not just websites)
• Experience with a PHP framework like Zend Framework, Laravel or CodeIgniter
• Experience with Unix/Linux, preferably Ubuntu
• Experience creating ‘how to’ guides for staff
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
• Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management
