JOB DETAILS:

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
• Operates armored vehicles or vans to transport the Chief of Mission and/or DCM to various locations within Dar es Salaam and throughout Tanzania. Assists during VIP visits. Responsible for the safety of passengers and remaining alert to safety and security.
• Maintains vehicular usage records and presents them as instructed by the Motor Pool Supervisor or Dispatcher. Maintains vehicle in clean and serviceable condition and performs minor preventive maintenance, advising the supervisor of problems which require more technical maintenance or repair.
• Serves as a special messenger in delivering documents or invitations, diplomatic notes, letters, and other items to host government ministries, diplomatic missions, International Organizations, or in carrying out various other important errands for the Ambassador. Acts as interpreter for the Ambassador as necessary, particularly while traveling around the country. Monitors Embassy communications at all times so that the Ambassador is never “out of touch”.

Qualifications and Evaluations
• Minimum three (3) years of safe driving experience in passenger vehicles is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE
• Locations of ministries, embassies, other government offices, homes/offices of local officials, residence or Amcits & other members of the Diplomatic Corps. Knowledge of travel routes and road conditions throughout the country. Basic auto mechanics knowledge.


Education Requirements:
• Completion of secondary school (form IV) is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: Level III (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required. Level III (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing Swahili is required. (This may be tested)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Driving skills as evidenced by a Class B & D license with no record of accidents for the last 3 years are required. Necessary skills for repairing the vehicle as needed on upcountry trips are required.
• Ability to organize errands in such a way as to make the most effective use of time and fuel is required.
• The incumbent is on 24 hour call and must have great physical stamina.
• Basic computer skills are required.
