This director sets the strategic direction of the global diversity and inclusion function, and leads the function to implement diversity and inclusion activities which support the overall cultural health of the organization and its scalability for growth. This role leads multiple projects for enterprise-wide and global implementation related to complex diversity & inclusion initiatives. The primary purpose of this position is to lead Diversity & Inclusion for the global ministry and/or major sub-functions or geographies of the ministry. This role accomplishes work through subordinate managers and/or staff. This responsibility includes hiring, discipline, and termination, as well as coaching, performance management, assigning, checking, and approving work to achieve global strategies and objectives.

PLEASE NOTE: This role is only open to qualified people living outside the US, preferably in one of Compassion’s countries.

What will you do?
• Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintain a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully uphold Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
• Act as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commit to and prioritize child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry. Abide by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Report any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately support responses to incidents if they occur.
• Uphold and engage in Compassion’s core Cultural Behaviors.
• Live out Compassion’s Leadership Expectations: Define and Cast Vision; Choose and Engage Talent; Craft and Execute Strategy and Ministry Plans; Measure and Ensure Accountability; and Adapt and Course-Correct.
• Provide leadership, planning and consultation to subordinates, executives, and peer management in the successful alignment of assigned department resources to ensure achievement of operational priorities and initiatives, integrating priorities within and across organizational strategies to ensure that department’s purpose is fulfilled.
• Compile or prepare and administer the annual budget and departmental expenses, ensuring accountability for on-time completion of deliverables based on department objectives, SLAs, and other Compassion standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory and board policies.
• Select, manage and develop assigned staff, establishing goals and objectives, coaching and managing performance, including discipline, motivation, and annual reviews. Support continuous learning and development that enhances individual performance and organizational capability.
• Set strategic direction for the organization’s Diversity and Inclusion initiatives, providing leadership, planning and consultation to deliver a wide range of diversity and inclusion activities relevant to the global context.
• Drive the execution of all key diversity and inclusion project deliverables, integration, and oversees alignment with program methodology, process and documentation support. Accountable for overall alignment with budget, roadmaps and work plans.
• Drive high-level partnerships across functions within the organization to determine critical organizational needs and provide viable strategic solutions to accelerate results and achieve operational excellence.
• Direct subordinate staff who partner with People and Culture staff, other functions across the ministry, and organizational leaders.Ensure that Diversity and Inclusion activities are holistically considered and integrated into processes including, but not limited to, talent planning, employee engagement, employee experience, and leadership and learning and development, and that results align with relevant strategy and goals.
• Oversee the formulating of analysis plans and designing or acquiring reliable internal and external data sources, and the discovery or development of data monitoring analytics to perform an actionable analysis and give appropriate recommendations on diversity and inclusion. Contribute to successful identification and communication of quality trends, and educate senior leadership in areas of opportunity for improvement.
• Consult and partner with Culture and Engagement and Spiritual Formation teams and leaders across the global ministry to coordinate objectives, strategies and plans, and to ensure global consistency and alignment with the ministry’s theological grounding and worldview.
• Direct and provide oversight regarding the drafting of business cases, eliciting requirements from stakeholders, studying organization issues, translating and simplifying requirements, managing communications, and producing formal documentation to ensure alignment to the diversity and inclusion strategy.

What do you bring?
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
• Extensive experience working in this field, preferably has overseen D&I at another organization.
• Deep understanding of cultural differences in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
• Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
• Fluency in another language preferred.
• Background in HR preferred.

*Equivalent education, training and/or certification may be substituted for experience and education shown above.

Working Environment: work from home
Travel Requirements: may be required to travel up to 20% of normal schedule.
