JOB DETAILS:
Cuso International and the Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) are co-implementing the “Midwives Save Lives” (MSL) project with the financial support of Global Affairs Canada. This initiative echoes the growing consensus on the key role midwifery and midwifery associations can play in reducing maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality in countries such as Ethiopia. The MSL project will contribute to the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality in four countries of Sub-Saharan Africa, through efforts aimed at strengthening the availability, access, and quality of reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health services delivered through midwives in target countries. More specifically, Cuso

International and CAM, in close collaboration with TAMA, will implement activities aimed at the following:

  • Increasing the skills and competencies of pre-and in-service midwives;
  • Strengthening health systems to work more effectively with and for midwives;
  •  Improving utilization of RMNCH services at the community-level in project targeted zones;
  • and Strengthening the capacity of Midwifery Associations to improve the quality and coverage of midwifery care.

Overall purpose: The placement will support the implementation of the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Strategy (GESI) of the Midwives Save Lives project in Tanzania.

Overall Objectives:

  • Provide support to the project local partners for the implementation of the MSL GESI strategy;
  • Participate in the development of monitoring and evaluation tools;
  • Support the partners’ efforts to develop internal policies, and resource materials to raise awareness around gender issues among staff and members;
  • Support partners with the development of advocacy initiatives (eg. March 8th).

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Revise MSL GESI strategy for Tanzania and support the development of a workplan
  • Support the development of monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Identify advocacy opportunities for TAMA link to GESI issues
  • Assist TAMA with the development of advocacy activities
  • Contribute to the development of internal policies and resource materials on GESI

Essential Academic Qualifications:
University degree in gender, social sciences (sociology, anthropology) or any other field related to development.
Essential Professional Background:

  • Understanding of gender related issues & 2 years’ experience;
  • Experience with policy analysis and policy drafting;
  • Experience in facilitation
