JOB DETAILS:
The Agriculture Markets Development Trust (AMDT) has been established by the Governments of Denmark; Ireland, and Sweden. The Trust has been established as a long term facility with the overall objective of increasing incomes and employment opportunities for poor women, men, and young people in Tanzania. With a strong pro-poor focus, the Trust works with the Private Sector, Government and Civil Society Organizations to promote the making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P)/Market Systems Development (MSD) approach that stimulates changes to market systems leading to broad and sustained impact on the lives of small holders farmers as well as competitiveness of agricultural MSMEs. AMDT achieves this by investing, together with market actors, in interventions that are: (i) based on diagnosed constraints and pro-poor opportunities, (ii) are well coordinated to enhance the leveraging of investments and resources targeting similar outcomes, (m) stimulate the development of inclusive, competitive, and resilient agricultural market systems, leading to sustained benefits and impacts tor the productive poor.

AMDT is now seeking a qualified candidate to fill a vacant full-time position of Gender and Youth Specialist. The job description and qualification requirements for the position are outlined below. Application from qualified women is particularly encouraged

Job Title: GENDER AND YOUTH SPEIALIST
Report to : M4P Adviser
Duty Station : Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

The Gender and Youth Specialist will be responsible for promoting and strengthening the inclusion and mainstreaming of gender issues in AMDT programs, projects and for developing AMDT and selected partners’ institutional capacity to address gender. To achieve this, the Specialist will be responsible for the overall development and delivery of the Gender integration Strategy of AMDT and its cascading and implementation within AMDT and across the portfolio of gender interventions in the market systems targeted by AMDT, to ensure women, men and youth benefit from AMDT and partners’ interventions and that these benefits are scalable and can be sustained in the long term

Responsibilities of the Gender and Youth Specialist

  • The Gender & Youth Specialist win be responsible for leading AMDT thinking in Women and Youth Economic Empowerment approaches and shaping how these approaches are adopted and applied in AMDT
  • Ensure that gender issues are integrated in AMDT strategic objectives, results frameworks, annual work plans, and that Women and Youth Economic Empowerment objectives and targets are well integrated within the broader context of gender specific constraints prioritized by AMDT and AMDT supported protects, and in monitoring and in all results reporting. g
  • Lead gender-focused analyses that provide evidence for developing or enhancing AMDT gender interventions in ways that are targeted and appropriate for the gender disaggregated needs and constraints laced by women and youth in the value chains targeted by AMDT. _ I
  • Ensure that there are clear ‘business cases’ for AMDT partners that contribute to women and youth economic empowerment in the markets targeted by AMDT
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight of programmatic activities supporting women and youth economic empowerment, including developing and refining responsive policy elements and inputs for AMDT management and partners to consider incorporating in ongoing and planned interventions
  • Orient and train AMDT staff, partner project start, and selected market actors on gender integration and approaches and the formulation of gender responsive policies and interventions to enhance gender integration in their business models and operations aimed at increasing income and employment opportunities for women and youth r
  • Serves as AMDT’S contact point with social and gender policy experts and practitioners, thereby building a network for addressing issues of priority for AMDT in relation to gender equality, and more specifically to women and youth economic development,
  • Represents AMDT’s interests at national and international for a in relation to gender equality, women and youth economic development as related to agriculture
  • Writes proposals for securing funds for gender and youth economic empowerment in the agricultural sector
  • Performs any other duties as will be assigned by the MP4 Advisor or the Technical Director

Key Competencies

  • Demonstrated success in implementing gender integration, youth and social inclusion strategies and activities in the context of providing advisory services or implementing gender interventions in a project or program context
  • Substantial knowledge of good practices in developing gender integration strategies and interventions, Mainstreaming gender in institutions and for in projects
  • Knowledge and experience in designing and implementing of Women and Youth Economic empowerment interventions an advantage
  • Experience in integrating gender in the private sector an advantage
  • Experience in gender and youth related national strategies and policy reviews, analysis, and application
  • Substantial knowledge in Tanzania national community development and gender policies
  • Experience in working on gender issues in the agriculture sector preferred
  • Must be a self-directed, highly organized person who can effectively prioritize and follow through on multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Strong communication skills, specifically strong verbal communication skills in English and Swahili, and excellent report writing skills
  • Ability to conduct training and capacity building to staff and implementing partners on gender equality, women and youth inclusion integration

Key Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences; Gender & Development Studies, international Development or other relevant field
  • At least 10 years‘ experience in a similar or related position;
