JOB DETAILS:
Position: Head of Business Development
Reports To: Country Director, WWF Tanzania Country Office

Grade: 52
Mission of the Business Development Department:
To ensure WWF Tanzania Country Office (TCO) is adequately financed and maintains strong fundraising and partnerships with governmental and private donors, corporates, and other stakeholders.

Major Functions:
Coordinate and manage all fundraising efforts and donor relationships at WWF Tanzania Country Office. This includes planning, managing, and ensuring the delivery of agreed fundraising targets. The success of this role is measured by:
• Income raised,
• Income growth,
• Number of donors maintained,
• Number of new donors recruited,
• Number of fundraising proposals submitted to donors.
You will work closely with the administration team to deliver all commitments to donors and coordinate effective engagement across all donor groups.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
• Strategy Development: Develop and implement the TCO Growth and Sustainability Strategy, aligning with the WWF Tanzania Country Strategic Plan and overall ROA (Africa Regional Office) strategic goals.
• Donor Relationship Management: Manage relationships with bilateral and multilateral government aid agencies (PSP), Ministries, Local Government Authorities, Civil Society Organizations, INGOs, Private Sector, and WWF Network stakeholders.
• Business Planning: Develop and coordinate the implementation of the TCO Business Plan to sustain growth over the next 10 years.
• Innovative Financing Solutions: Articulate innovative solutions for financing WWF Tanzania’s strategic plan, aligning initiatives with regional perspectives.
• Regional Collaboration: Coordinate with other Country Offices and National Organizations for developing regional projects that support the TCO Action Plan and WWF Global Goals.
• Programme Implementation: Work with Landscape Leaders to establish Programme Implementation Agreements (PIAs) with donors to achieve impactful conservation at the Landscape level.
• Shareholder Group Engagement: Lead and coordinate the TCO Shareholder Group for effective engagement with Network Partners.
• Funding Pipeline Management: Maintain the TCO funding pipeline, ensuring it is updated and shared with the Senior Management Team (SMT).
• C2G Policy Adherence: Ensure that the C2G policy is adhered to by TCO teams, providing necessary guidance for the development and implementation of current and future TCO projects.
• GEF Projects: Coordinate with WWF-US to ensure effective development and implementation of GEF-supported projects in Tanzania.
• Monitoring and Reporting: Develop a dashboard system for tracking and reporting fundraised income as per agreed donor schedules.
• Systems Oversight: Oversee systems that monitor TCO fundraising efforts, partnership agreements, funding proposals, and policy dialogues, ensuring proper communication with the Country Director, ROA Resource Mobilization team, and relevant stakeholders.
• Donor Relations Support: Assist the Country Director in managing donor relations by organizing meetings, preparing presentations, and conducting research to target potential funding.
• Embassy and Development Partner Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with embassies and development partners at the national level, liaising with WWF Partnership Managers on sub-regional and regional levels.
• Opportunities for Funding: Work with program staff, donors, and other stakeholders to identify new funding opportunities from existing and potential donors.
• Training and Guidance: Provide support, backstopping, guidance, and training to WWF TCO staff on fundraising and partnership matters.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with donor agreements, including timely technical and financial communication.
• Other Duties: Perform any other duties as requested by the Country Director and WWF ROA Representative.

Required Functional Skills:
• Proven track record in proposal development and successful fundraising from major development partners, PSPs, Foundations, Private Sector, and MEAs.
• Strong management skills in inter-institutional relations, preferably in the development field.
• Proficient in proposal and report writing, with an understanding of complex funding models.
• Knowledge of development issues, donor institutions, and the not-for-profit sector.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Kiswahili or other languages are an added advantage.

Required Behavioral Skills:
• Strong understanding of partnership development, fundraising, donor relations, and international relations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships, mediate, chair meetings, and resolve conflicts.
• Cross-cultural skills and versatility in managing different types of partnerships.
• Personal integrity with an honest and open approach.
• Approachable and able to engage with partners at all levels.

Working Relationships:
Internal:
As part of the WWF TCO Senior Management Team (SMT), the Head of Business Development will interact closely with Heads of Departments (Head of Conservation, Head of Finance, Head of Operations, Head of People & Culture, Head of Communications, and Head of Planning Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning). The role will involve coordination and interaction with various teams, eco-region teams, species teams, WWF International, and other WWF Network staff.

External:
Interact with government aid agencies, embassies, national governmental institutions, NGOs, academic institutions, business and industry leaders, media, donors, specialists/consultants, and other stakeholders.
