JOB DETAILS:
The Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) is a bi-national railway company owned jointly by the Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Zambia. The railway stretches from the port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to New Kapiri-Mposhi in Zambia, covering a distance of 1,860km. TAZARA handles both freight and passenger traffic for Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Democratic Republic of Congo, the Great Lakes Region and other Southern African countries. TAZARA’s Corporate Head Office is in Dar es Salaam, with two Regional Offices in Dar es Salaam and Mpika, respectively.

The Authority seeks the services of committed, vibrant, innovative, strategically-focused and business-oriented nationals in the following positions, which have fallen vacant.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the successful candidate will be responsible for directing and managing the Authority, whose mission is to provide efficient and cost effective rail freight and passenger services to satisfy customer demand and generate revenue to ensure growth and returns to the shareholders.

MANAGING DIRECTOR (BASED IN DAR ES SALAAM)

Responsibilities:
The roles and responsibilities of the Managing Director include:
a) Formulating strategies and plans for the Authority, for approval by the Board of Directors in line with the vision, mission and objectives of the Authority;
b) Monitoring and coordinating the various functions of the Authority and directing timely remedial actions where necessary to ensure compliance to the Authority’s corporate objectives and plans in a cohesive and purposeful manner;
c) Reviewing the Authority’s operating and capital budgets and presenting the same for approval to the Board of Directors;
d) Mobilizing and managing the Authority’s financial resources to ensure availability of adequate funding to meet investment and operational obligations;
e) Maintaining effective communication with the shareholders to facilitate speedy resolution of matters affecting the Authority;
f) Ensuring that conducive work conditions and industrial relations exist in order to attract, retain and motivate the workforce.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:
a) A degree from a recognized University or its equivalent preferably in Management, Business Administration or Engineering;
b) A post graduate degree (preferably an MBA);
c) Experience in railway transportation or related industries will be an added advantage;
d) Vast experience in interpersonal, leadership skills and excellent communications skills to deal with a diverse workforce and clients;
e) Over 10 years of experience in a reputable organization, five of which must have been held at Senior Management level;
f) This position is contractual and open to Zambian nationals only.

Remuneration:
An attractive salary plus fringe benefits commensurate with the respective positions will be offered to the successful candidates.
