Introduction:
Internews Tanzania is part of Internews Network, an international NGO based in the USA that operates with local media in more than 100 countries. It has been working in the country since 2015, helping media outlets and journalists to work more professionally.
Together with local partners such as universities and other non-profit organizations, Internews has supported the development of thousands of media outlets worldwide, including radio and television stations, newspapers, mobile news networks, and online news sites. Internews works to ensure access to trusted, quality information that empowers people to have a voice in their future and to live healthy, secure and rewarding lives. Since 2015 Internews Tanzania has trained journalists to produce balanced stories and also to include more of women and youth voices.
The organization has launched a five- year Boresha Habari project funded by the USAID that aims to support an open, inclusive environment for media and civil society to provide high-quality information that promotes participation inclusion and accountability.
Overview
S/he will work with relevant stakeholders to facilitate curricula design, ensuring that they are locally relevant. S/he will also manage an intensive Interns training activity, and ensure that the Interns are effectively engaged. S/he will work closely with the M&E Specialist and Program team to collect and incorporate feedback to make trainings more effective and responsive to the needs of beneficiaries. S/he will also work closely with the M&E Specialist and Media and Communications Director to collate information and draft reports as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• In charge of Internews interns learning radio content production.
• Supervising interns in planning audio content production.
• Guide and train interns in the use of relevant digital tools for radio production and packaging.
• Mentoring of interns in radio production techniques.
• Coordinate production and packaging of (3-5 minute) radio programs by interns.
Qualifications and Skills
• A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or Mass Communication
• Fluent in English and Swahili
• Very good computer skills
• Experienced in using audio editing software (Adobe or Audacity)
• At least 2 years’ experience in working in radio
• Proven training experience
• Solid management skills and management experience
• Very good people skills
The editor should have excellent English and Swahili communication skills, both verbal and written, excellent interpersonal skills, an experience in working effectively in a team environment, good public relations skills, self-motivation, motivating leadership, excellent problem solving and decision making skills.
