We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities
Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organisation that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries, restore ocean life and build lasting pathways to prosperity. Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally. Across a dozen countries, we’re partnering with traditional fishers and community organisations to design, scale, strengthen and sustain fisheries management and conservation at the community level. We bring partners together in networks to advocate for reform, and share tools and best practices to support fishing communities across the globe

Summary job description
We are currently recruiting a Partner Support Coordinator to support our evolving operations and partnerships in Tanzania. Reporting to the East Africa Regional Programmes Manager, this is a full time role based in Blue Ventures’ Tanzania office, with regular travel to work closely with colleagues, partners, field teams and communities across the country, with occasional travel to other sites across East Africa. The successful candidate will be a motivated, proactive and highly organised individual, with an excellent knowledge of the small-scale fisheries, marine conservation and rural development sectors.
You will demonstrate a proven track record of project design and management, as well as exceptional written communications. Ideally, you will have experience of community-based conservation, co-management and development initiatives in Tanzania. You will have insight and experience in supporting organisations in developing governance capabilities in communities, with a particular focus on financial management.
We are looking for an individual who is open to new ideas and embraces innovation, who can demonstrate experience of building effective working partnerships for conservation and/or development. Assessment of applications will include candidates’ alignment with BV’s core values and mission to support human rights-based approaches to marine conservation and fisheries management.
You will thrive in environments that are collegiate and inspiring, and be able to demonstrate experience of working independently and solving complex problems in challenging situations. Blue Ventures is a fast growing and mission-driven social enterprise, offering excellent opportunities for further professional development.

Responsibilities
Oversight of Blue Ventures’ partnerships:
● Lead the development of harmonised tools, systems and work plans across all partnerships in Tanzania - ensuring consistency and alignment with those in the Outreach team and organisation
● Facilitate the use of a common approach to developing fisheries management and governance capacity building in our partners through the development of training modules, best practice and monitoring tools
● Identify and address gaps in our team and partner capacity, designing technical support plans and providing training as appropriate
● Gather regular feedback from community partners to guide efforts to improve fisheries governance and management performance
● Evaluate and document key learnings, best practices and relevant fishery/country information, including broader learning around fisheries management

Technical support
● Work closely with the regional partner support coordinators in Tanzania to support local partners and community members in improving local fisheries management and governance practices, based on national systems
● Partners, and the community institutions they serve, often lack skills and capacity to understand natural resource economics and to develop capacity in financial management. With the support of the regional partner support team, lead the development of financial governance in community institutions
● Support the socio-economic development of small scale fishing communities by identifying opportunities to integrate programmes such as alternative livelihoods and savings and loans schemes into our work
● Identify opportunities to strengthen policies that encourage and sustain community action in co management, working with colleagues in the WIO and UK to advocate for policy development
● Identify opportunities for and coordinate learning exchanges with partners and Communities

The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, in a small organisation such as Blue Ventures, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description.
Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee's responsibilities, the job description will be changed in consultation with the employee and the Human Resources team.
