Job Summary:
The job provides information to oversee and manage the full processes of Edible Oil and seed cake, to monitor equipment to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness of the expellers to achieve required yield..
What you will do:
To oversee and manage the full processes for the production of Edible Oil and Seed Cake, to monitor equipment to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness of the expellers to achieve required yield. Also responsible for the safe operation, basic maintenance, hygiene of the plant and troubleshooting of the facilities equipment and instruments, in compliance with the Pyxus Agriculture Tanzania Ltd, TFDA and TBS Standards and requirements
OIL MILLING
• Reads, understands and interprets Oil milling instructions daily, sets machines, runs machines to achieve plant efficiency, monitors machine set up to achieve the intended volume and yield targets in line with Pyxus SOP's
• Receives oil milling plan from the Processing Coordinator daily, understands the processing requirements, checks and interprets processing requirements:
• Sets relevant machines and allocates the appropriate parameters daily to suit the oil grade being processed in order to meet the intended targets/requirements;
• Programs and operates the system that operates the machinery, uses the system to start up the plant, shut it down and run the production of material:
• Keeps and maintains detailed reports of operations, updates process log books with activities and process adjustments made, noting any issues they encountered and measures taken;
• Keeps manual records and saves recipe for the machine settings that enable to achieve the best specifications and yields for future reference when processing the same grade;
• Sets drive parameters, checks for enough steam and water supply before oil processing starts;
• Checks products, manually and also through QA results and adjusts machine setting in order to achieve the intended specifications;
• Ensures that the plant hygiene is kept to food processing standards all the time
OFF SEASON MAINTENANCE
• In conjunction with the Processing Coordinator, implements the off season plant maintenance plan, reduces downtime, checks installation and repairs of all electrical and mechanical equipment and machinery in compliance with Pyxus Agriculture Tanzania Ltd AOP
• Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees
• In conjunction with the processing Coordinator, participates in the reduction of maintenance cost by reducing the down time and enforcing best practice in the Factory,
• Works with the factory teams to implement the off season maintenance plan by fully servicing and repairing machinery and equipment in compliance the Maintenance Plan objectives;
• Inspects and repairs mechanical equipment and machinery and recommends to the Processing Coordinator, the replacement of such in line with Pyxus Agricultural Tanzania Ltd and Factory best practice;
• Analyses blue prints, schematics, and drawings of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded systems and Coordinates systems installation for the purposes of providing enhanced and/or upgraded mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic capabilities:
• Test runs each machine after maintenance and/or modifications ready for Processing:
ONSEASON / ROUTINE /PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE:
• In conjunction with the Processing Coordinator, implements the 'on season' /routine/ preventive maintenance plan, attends and reduces down time, installs and repairs all mechanical equipment and machinery in compliance with Pyxus Agriculture Tanzania Ltd AOP;
• In conjunction with the Processing Coordinator discusses and prepares the relevant information for inclusion in the 'on season'/ routine / preventive maintenance plan to meet the Factory maintenance requirements:
• Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees,
• Coordinates and carries out design changes and modifications to equipment as per instructions from the Processing Coordinator in line with Mechanical, Hydraulic And Pneumatic best practices;
• Performs inspections of equipment and machinery, identifies and attends critical maintenance requirements (for example breakdowns and compressor outages and similar) to ensure processing and downtime does not exceed the set target in line with the Factory Maintenance requirements:
• Researches, recommends and implements new and revised Mechanical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic procedures, systems and equipment
• Oversees and participates in repairing, installing, and maintaining conveying and classification equipment and related devices (including hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, classifiers, dust rooms and presses);
• Provides technical advice and support to factory staff, and contract personnel Coordinates and tests, locates, and assists in repairs on malfunctions in mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic machinery and equipment;
• Identifies spares requirements and orders within the factory, and provides daily status reports to the Processing Coordinator regarding work progress and the status of all equipment;
• Conducts continuous inspections of all key process points in the facility, to identify anything abnormal, makes necessary machinery and equipment adjustments and implement the proper response, including notifying the Processing Coordinator
• Ensures that the products being produced under their supervision meet all specifications, by gathering samples for laboratory analysis, and perform quality control analyses,
• Meets with factory staff weekly, discusses and agrees on objectives, ensures that the SHE, Security and ISO Policies and Procedures are implemented and adhered to throughout the relevant processing operations in compliance with SHE, ISO, TFDA, and TBS Policies and Standards;
• Meets with factory staff weakly, discusses and agrees medium and short term objectives, develops and/or updates a work plan and checks that this is being carried out Trains staff, or arranges for the training of staff in the understanding and application of the department section and their own core functions and tasks;
Who you are and what you've done:
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or similar (Essential)
• Graduate Degree in Bioprocess and Post-Harvest Engineering or similar (Desirable)
Experience: Related experience, with 4 to 6 years in Agricultural food processing Industry or similar (2 to 3 years)
Knowledge Areas
• Oil processing planning and operations
• Knowledge of all functions of the oil business in Tanzania
• Knowledge and understanding of Pyxus International structures, business and operations (Desirable)
• Understanding of the overarching Government and related industry regulatory Acts and
• Provisions regarding the Food Processing Industry and the impact onto Pyxus Agriculture Tanzania Limited & the Region (Essential)
• Departmental Financial policies and procedures (Essential)
