We are offering an exciting position for an experienced Project Manager with an academic background in public health and/or medical sciences to lead our project in Tanzania as part of our passionate and committed country team.

Morogoro, Tanzania, with frequent travels to the project sites in Ulanga and Kilombero Districts

Neonatal Health Project “A Good Start”
“A Good Start” (second project phase 2025-2027) aims at reducing perinatal and neonatal deaths and improving the quality of care for neonates in rural Tanzania. The project will, in partnership with the local health authorities, improve neonatal care services at 8 health facilities in Morogoro Region. In addition, the project has an important implementation research component to inform future policy development. The “A Good Start” Project Manager fulfils a pivotal role in providing both technical leadership and oversight for the implementation of the project. The Project Manager will work closely with the clinical hospital teams as well as with the Council and Regional Health Management teams and the collaborating research institution. She/he will be supported by the SolidarMed Country Director.

Your tasks and responsibilities
Project implementation, steering and technical support
• Lead and proactively track the implementation and progress of the project
• Develop work plans and reports according to agreed milestones and donor requirements
• Prepare and ensure validity of all project’s legal documents (such as MOUs with authorities)
• Develop and proactively share ideas for evidence-based further development of the project
Human resource, administration, finance and procurement
• Leading, managing and coaching the project team, including recruitment of new staff
• Ensure effective management of the project resources (human, financial, materials)
• Ensure that the project budget is managed and handled in an efficient and effective manner
Monitoring, research and reporting
• Ensure adequate project monitoring, data analysis and use for actions and steering
• Lead the project’s operational research including writing of publications and result dissemination
• Prepare quality project reports for timely submission to the relevant authorities and donors
Partnership, representation, coordination and policy dialogue
• Ensure participation of all relevant project staff, stakeholders, and authorities are included in the relevant project cycle management steps
• Proactively look for new partnerships and networks and conduct policy dialogue
• Promote visibility and representation of SolidarMed locally, nationally and internationally

Your profile
To best fit into our dynamic, interdisciplinary team, we are looking for a highly motivated individual with the following qualifications:
• Medical Doctor/Pediatrician/Nurse midwife with at least 5 years of clinical work experience in maternal and neonatal health, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa
• Ability to apply project management tools, including financial and human resource management
• Strong organizational, communication and negotiation skills to facilitate policy dialogue
• Expert in managing multiple complex processes simultaneously and independently
• Proven experience in strategic planning and critical thinking
• Well-versed in project budgeting, accountability, managing burn rates, and optimizing cost allocations across multiple donors
• Team player with good inter-personal skills
• Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner
• Experience in knowledge sharing, networking, implementation research and scientific exchange
• Fluent in English (written, spoken). Willingness to learn Kiswahili. Knowledge of Kiswahili is an asset
