Overview
The main responsibility of a Project Specialist is to monitor the quality and throughput of transcriptions for specific projects and provide feedback to individuals, to the team as a whole, or to the Linguistic Project Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

The role may include the following duties and responsibilities:

• Carrying out QA on submitted work OR allocating a native speaker resource to do so
• Correcting errors found in QA OR allocating a native speaker resource to do so
• Providing feedback to transcribers on errors found in work and to the team as a whole
• Reviewing QA scores to identify below-target performers
• Tracking the performance of individuals over time using the Performance Reports
• Unassigning below-target performers or transcribers who are not working or communicating reliably Ensuring close and regular communication with the LPM on both individual performance and performance of the team overall
  Depending on the project needs, the Project Specialist role may also include:
• Preparing guidelines, onboarding materials and tools, aligned to client specifications
• Managing rework processes to ensure quality or prepare deliverables
• Assisting with spelling standardisation processes
• Communications with transcribers, including responding to day-to-day questions, verifying availability and providing feedback
• Assisting with recruitment / onboarding of new transcribers
  The Project Specialist is paid on an hourly basis.
  
  The role is expected to require approximately 4-6 hours per day, however this can vary depending on the complexity of the language and project requirements, and whether at the beginning or end of the project (more time is usually required at the start of a project and during delivery preparations).
  
  Qualifications and Skills
  
  Essential attributes include:
• Native or bilingual proficiency in the project language OR linguistic qualifications
• Strong written and spoken English language skills Familiarity with project specifications
• Detail oriented and able to switch between subjective and literal tasks
• Flexibility, willingness to learn, and good communication skills Reliability
• Extensive experience using the internet

Desirable attributes include:

• A quality track record or comparable experience on other projects
• Awareness of Data Protection regulations
• Flexibility: work hours per day may vary
• Technical ability (use of Appen tools, email etc.)
• A linguistic interest
• Availability to work for 4-6 hours per day within the given project timeframe

Tool Requirements

• A computer less than five years old
• Microsoft Windows (Vista or above) or MAC operating system (not a tablet)
• A minimum screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels
• Working sound card and overhead headphones (with microphone recommended)
• Reliable broadband internet connection
• Commercial antivirus software (recommended)
