PASSPORT TO COFFEE EXPORT (PACE) PROJECT
Passport to Coffee Export (PACE) is a 51-month project, targeting approximately 22,500 smallholder coffee farmers, with 52% being youth aged (18-35 years) and women, in Mbeya, Songwe and Ruvuma regions. Tanzania. The supports factory workers from coffee cooperatives and community processing and value addition centres, to acquire technical skills and other best practises in order to enhance quality, reduce post-harvest waste and encourage resource efficiency and recyclicity.
The overall objective of the project is to promote a sustainable and inclusive sector development through a robust export oriented coffee value chain by 2024. To achieve this, the action has set four specific objectives (SO) which include: i) improving export oriented coffee sector; ii) increasing incomes through job creation; iii) enhancing food and nutrition security of smallholder coffee farmers; and iv) enhancing sectoral value addition and marketing.
In light of recyclicity, the project is looking to support about 25 AMCOS in Mbeya, Songwe and Ruvuma regions to apply vermicomposting techniques to the coffee pulps in order to create compost manure for the farms and reduce the emission caused by the uncontrolled decomposing of the pulps.
