Gatsby Africa is seeking a. Trust Director to lead the Forestry Development Trust (FDT), which was established in 2013 to work with the public and private sectors to develop a sustainable and competitive forestry sector in Tanzania. With secured funding from Gatsby Africa and DFID, a team of 32 staff in place, and a strong platform oi existing work along with new interventions at design and pilot phase, FDT is well positioned to continue expanding its impact in the sector. This provides an opportunity for a suitably experienced Director to lead the FDT team, refine and execute the organisation ’s strategy, building on strong relationships already established within the Tanzanian forestry sector.
The ideal candidate will have proven leadership skills, a high-level of strategic acumen, a track record of building relationships at the roost senior level across the private sector, governments and donors, and, ideally, experience oi managing large-scale sector development programmes. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills and polished written and verbal communication skills in English. Fluency in written and spoken Kiswahm would be a significant advantage. With at least i2-15 years’ experience, including some in the private sector, s/he will have a strong track record of successfully running organizations or programmes with multiple stakeholders and large, multi-layered teams, handing annual budgets of at least $2m per annum. While in-depth experience and technical understanding oi commercial forestry would be an advantage, these, are not a necessity and we are more interested in the qualities list above.
The post is based in Iringa in the Southern Highlands oi Tanzania, which is a sate and welcoming city with an excellent climate, an international school, and is an appealing place for those who like nature and the outdoor life.
