JOB DETAILS:
The Nurse and Midwifery Tutor at the Abdulrahman Al-Sumait University (SUMAIT) through the Center for Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE) will be responsible for training and mentoring nursing students. He/she will deliver educational programs, provide clinical instructions, assess student progress, and ensure that nursing trainees meet professional standards.
The Nurse and Midwifery Tutor at the University of SUMAIT will bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing students for clinical practice and exams. Strong communication, leadership, and teaching skills are essential for this role.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preparing lecture/lesson plans, teaching materials, and assessment tools on a monthly and weekly basis.
- Conducting lessons and clinical sessions according to the set timetable.
- Participating in setting and marking internal and external classroom and clinical examinations.
- Carrying out continuous assessment and evaluation of students during classroom and clinical training and providing feedback in a timely manner.
- Set and mark examinations and practical assessments and submit results promptly.
- Assessing students’ practical competencies and ensuring they meet professional standards.
- Maintaining student records and preparing progress reports.
- Planning and preparing academic programmes/work plans and supportive budgets.
- Advising on the purchase and usage of clinical equipment and instructional materials.
- Participating in student admissions and orientation programs.
- Participating in general staff meetings, panel, departmental and committee meetings and contribute to academic policies.
- Participating in the relevant sector reform activities.
- Providing guidance, counselling, and mentorship to students.
- Being responsible for trainees’ academic and social affairs. Participating in the preparation of the institutional budget.
- Ensuring adherence to guidelines set by the Tanzania/Zanzibar Nurses and Midwives Council and the Ministry of Education.
- Promoting patient safety and best nursing practices.
- Carrying out any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.
Academic Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Competencies
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery, Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Education or Bachelor of Medical Education with a Practicing License for Tutorship from the Tanzania Nurses and Midwives Council.
- A master’s degree of Nursing and Midwifery is preferred or any other related skills.
- A Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery.
- Certificate of Registration from the Ministry of Education.
- At least two (2) years of working experience in health teaching in a reputable organization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in nursing and midwifery education, healthcare policies, and regulations.
- Fully registered with the Tanzania/Zanzibar Nurses and Midwives Council and holding a valid practicing license.
- Excellent computer skills. Should have good communication, negotiation and people skills.
Knowledge, skills and ability required:
- Comprehensive understanding of nursing practices and theories to provide accurate and relevant information to students
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to clearly and effectively explain complex medical concepts and procedures
- Strong interpersonal skills to connect with and understand the needs of students, providing necessary support and guidance
- Problem-solving skills to help students understand and apply nursing theories in practical scenarios
- Organizational abilities to plan, manage, and assess both classroom instruction and clinical practice sessions
- Patient and empathetic nature, to accommodate the diverse learning
