Position Description:
GBRI BUSINESS SOLUTIONS LTD is a grower and an exporter of fresh vegetables and fruit. The company operates in both Northern and Southern Highlands regions of Tanzania. GBRI is seeking to recruit two (2) Agronomist to join our team in production department. The purpose of this role is to set and implement best agricultural practices required to attain the highest crop yield production of avocado.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
• Develop, implement and maintain Global G.A.P standards and other local and international food safety standards at each production unit(s) he/she is accountable for.
• Plan and coordinated farming activities such as land preparation, nursery, planting, fertilising, irrigation, disease, pest, weed control, budding and pruning and harvesting and keep all farm activity record in accordance to G.A.P and other standards requirement.
• Facilitate capacity building to farmers to ensure that farmers and employees have adequate the skills and knowledge on G.A.P to maximize agricultural productivity and comply with food safety, hygiene practices and company core values, policies and procedures.
• Conduct routine field scouting to proactive detect pest, disease and weeds, general crop performance recommend and take appropriate preventative and corrective actions needed to manage the production risks.
• Recruit of smallholder farmers and ensure all farmers are trained, supported and guided with right knowledge and skills needed to achieve maximum yield.
• Prepare and submit work plans, weekly, monthly, farm activities reports and attend production weekly meeting review.
• Work in close consultation with the Production Manager to review and prepare the production work plan and budget as part of the quarterly and annual planning process.
• Supervising the maintenance of farm infrastructures buildings, farm equipment and water supply systems to ensure efficiency utilization and equipment remain operational.
• Managing business capital including budgeting, input loan management provided to farmers.
• Lead and influence change whilst develop positive culture that foster the company core values, policies and standards.
• Preparing and managing plans for crop improvement and enhanced production, safeguarding environmental sustainability, safety and quality.
Qualification:
Degree/diploma in horticulture.
Experience:
At least 3 years working experiences in avocado production.
Skills/Knowledge Requirement:
• Possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Sound knowledge and skills on international food safety and social standards (G.A.P and SMETA).
• Ability to plan, organize and prioritizing to effectively and efficiently achieve deliverables.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Self-motivated and a team builder.
• Computer Literacy-Fluent in MS application.
• Possess a valid driving licence.
