JOB DETAILS:
Legal Counsel Civil Litigation (2 Position(s))
Job Location: Head Office

Job Purpose:
• Responsible in day-to-day duties pertaining to management of bank’s litigation, control of legal risks, engagement with strategic partners in business and justice delivery as well as advising branches and head office departments on matters with actual and/or potential legal implications.

Main Responsibilities:
• Attend courts/tribunals and to represent the bank.
• Review and/or draft pleadings.
• Support external legal counsels in obtaining witnesses and evidence/documents.
• Arrange and participate in case preparation meetings.
• Oversee Primary court cases from initial stage to finalization and update cases tracker.
• Follow up on, receive external counsel’s reports and update litigation report/ Legal system.
• Prepare monthly lists of completed cases and follow up on recovery of legal fee from completed cases.
• Respond to branches and other departments’ e-mails and queries related to Litigation.
• Support the recovery of outstanding loans through criminal action where loans are tainted with elements of criminality.
• Assist to prepare quarterly litigation reports
• Ensure the execution of TRA Agency Notices end-to-end.
• Ensure the compliance to probate orders for account closure and Garnishee orders to ensure mitigation of risks related to delayed or non-compliance.
• Handle other tasks as assigned by the Head of Legal from time to time

Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB)
• Must be an Advocate with a minimum experience of 4 years
• A least 3 years’ working experience in litigation.
