SOS Children’s Villages Tanzania is a local non-government organization affiliated to SOS Children’s Villages International, a worldwide child care and protection organization that work to protect and care for children who have lost parental care, or who stand at risk of losing the care. SOS Children’s Villages has been working in the United Republic of Tanzania since 1991. Our programs are in Zanzibar, Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Iringa. SOS Children’s Villages is looking for enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of children and youth through internships and volunteer opportunities within its Children in Street Situation Project. Interns and Volunteers will support the implementation of street children intervention, directly contributing to the coordination, management, and execution of the Children in Street Situation (CiSS) project.
Position Title: Intern
Duty Stations: Dodoma (1 post), Dar es Salaam (2 posts) and Mwanza (2 posts)
Direct Supervisor: Children in Street Situation (CiSS) Project Officer
Contract Duration: Six Months with possible extension
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure timely implementation of project activities and adherence to budget and reporting guidelines.
• Provide technical guidance and input under the supervision of the CISS Project
Officer.
• Compile project information regularly for reports, communication materials, and monitoring processes.
• Maintain strong relationships with Districts Local Governments, Civil Society, and Private Sector Organizations, fostering collaboration and organizing meetings.
• Supervise street children activities and support LGAs and partners for successful rescues and reunifications.
• Identify, train, supervise, and mentor dropping centers/social workers for project implementation.
• Organize and support workshops, seminars, training activities, and coordination meetings for project partners.
• Contribute to cross-district, national, and related project assignments, facilitating strategic communication and knowledge sharing.
• Provide monthly project updates to the Project Manager, ensuring effective presentation of project experiences and lessons learned.
• Prepare detailed budget and activity plans, and technical and financial reports in accordance with project agreements.
• Facilitate project monitoring and evaluation processes, contributing to national and sub-national discussions on project-related matters.
• Support implementation of related projects to strengthen synergies and linkages across different levels of implementation.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Abilities, and Behavioral Competences:
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Community Development, or related field.
• 1 year experience in related field, experience working with Children and Youth, and experience in dealing with street-connected children is an added advantage.
• Strong organizational and facilitation skills.
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
• Fluency in Swahili; English proficiency is required.
• Computer literacy and technical report writing skills.
• Ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Willingness to work and visit the mapped area for street children settlement.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and function in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Sensitivity to local conditions, ethics, norms, and sensitivity to gender and children’s issues.
