Working as part of a team, this is an integral role to assist in the exploration, development, production and preparation of agreed designated mining project/site. Work involves a camp based role at the AMET Mine site with a set work schedule on a 6/7. You will spend the majority of your time analyzing samples. In a laboratory, you will stand up for full shift and you have to follow strict safety regulations because of hazardous materials that are sometimes used. As an Assayer, you may have to work under pressure to produce results promptly to support the efforts of mine crews to maximize output. You will be responsible for the preparation of samples from receiving to digesting involving different lab procedures. You will be comfortable working safely in handling acids and reagents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and label all samples brought into the lab.
- Inspect, weigh, grade, sample, test or refine raw and processed materials, analyzing for substances such as metals, non-metallic minerals, concentrates, waste and air samples.
- Use spectrographic analysis, chemical solutions, specialized equipment.
- Adjust methods of analysis.
- Receive samples of raw and processed materials from the mine, mill, pools, tanks.
- Pre-operation inspection of equipment and advise supervisors or colleagues of issues or maintenance concerns.
- Maintain and monitor analysis equipment.
- Ensure work areas are and equipment is kept tidy and organized.
- Complete inspection / test reports.
- Assist in environmental audits and the development of waste management and related environmental protection procedures.
Requirements:
- Education Background: Minimum three (3) years Chemical Technologist Diploma.
- Experience: Minimum five (5) years of experience in mining environment Assay Lab or laboratory environment or in minerals processing.
- Knowledge of sample preparation and AAS procedures.
- Experience with and understanding of Atomic Absorption Spectrometer “Rayleigh” – WFX-120B is a must.
- Experience with atomic absorption spectrometer.
- Proficiency in computer incl. Microsoft Office.
