Background Baylor College of Medicine Children's Foundation-Tanzania (Baylor- Tanzania) is a national indigenous non-government organization (NGO) registered in 2009. Our work supports the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children’s (MOHCDGEC) efforts to strengthen the provision - Of high- quality, comprehensive HIWAIDS care and treatment to HIV - exposed and - infected children and adolescents in the take and Southern Highlands Zones of Tanzania. Baylor-Tanzania is an affiliate of Baylor College of Medicine international Pediatric MDS Initiative (BIPAl) Clinical Centers of Excellence Network, headquartered at Texas Children's Hospital, Houston, Texas, USA’

Role of the Board of Directors
The Board is responsible for the governance of Baylor-Tanzania and is accountable for the performance of its operation s. The Board shall approve the overall policies for Baylor-Tanzania, monitor and evaluate its strategic direction and retain plenary potter for those functions not specifically delegated by it to its committees or to management. The Board shall monitor the management of the business and affairs of the organization with a view to evaluate, on an ongoing basis, whether the Foundations resources are being managed with integrity and in a manner consistent with ethical and legal considerations.

In discharging their duties, the Board must act honestly and in good faith, with a view to the best interests of Baylor-Tanzania. The Board must exercise the care, diligence and skill that a reasonably prudent person should exercise in comparable circumstances.

Baylor-Tanzania’; day-to-day business affairs are managed by the Executive Director who reports to the Board Chairman.

Criteria for board Members
Board members are expected to possess the following characteristics and traits

  • Demonstrate high ethical standards and integrity in their personal and professional dealings;
  • Act honestly and in good Faith with a view to the best interests of Baylor-Tanzania
  • Devote sufficient time to the affairs of Baylor-Tanzania and excises care diligence and skill in fulfilling the responsibilities both as Board members and as Committee members;
  • Provide independent judgment on abroad range of issues;
  • Understand and critically evaluate the key business plans and the strategic direction of the Foundation;
  • Raise questions and issues to facilitate active and effective participation in the deliberation of the Board and of each Committee;
  • Make all reasonable efforts to attend all Board and Committee meetings; and
  • Review the materials provided by management in advance of the Board and

Committee meetings.
Baylor Tanzania is looking for two interested individuals to join its Board of Directors membership. One member to fill a vacant seat in the field of marketing and advocacy; and the second member to fill a vacant seat in the field of resource mobilization and funds rising. Selected board members will serve three years which are renewable to second term only. These appointments are strictly voluntary and are not afforded compensation however travel expenses to attend meetings will be covered.

Interested candidates for membership of Board of Directors should possess with the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s Degree in public health, social sciences, international development, or any related field
  • Five years senior level management experience in the relevant field include design implementation and management of programs, company’ NGO and running board affairs
  • Demonstrated experience in institutional strengthening approaches in the field of marketing and advocacy;
  • Demonstrated experience ln institutional strengthening approaches in the field of resource mobilization and fund raising
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in building and maintain productive working relationships with the governments, a wide network of institutional partners and stakeholders, including Non-Governmental organization (NGO) and donors
  • Knowledge of Tanzania private sector and business environment, health initiatives and related issues
