As a non-profit social enterprise, we create fun, localised and multi-platform educational content that helps kids learn, and leverage their learning to change their lives. Ubongo reaches millions of families across Africa through accessible technologies like TV, radio and mobile phones. Our shows – Ubongo Kids, Akili and Me and Nuzo and Namia – currently air in 41 countries across Africa, in Swahili, English, French, Hausa, Yoruba, Luo, Kikuyu, Chichewa and Kinyarwanda. We are currently adapting the shows to even more languages. We are also creating a variety of digital products that enable kids to engage further with our stories.
Job Summary:
We are looking for a passionate and creative Digital Video Consultant to join our team. The overall objective of the Digital Video Consultant is to assist the Digital Video Manager with the upload and administration of digital video platforms in order to grow Ubongo’s digital video audience.
In achieving this objective, the Digital Video Consultant will be responsible for working side by side with the Digital Video Manager to meet and exceed objectives, ensuring that key operational and quality metrics are consistently achieved. This includes the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Ubongo Playroom, a number of YouTube channels, and other external video platforms (such as VoD sites). It also includes working to maximize the performance of these video platforms by undertaking the daily, weekly and monthly activities and delivering results against departmental requirements and maximizing operational performance.
Responsibilities
• Use your editing skills to edit/repurpose video content for various digital platforms (YouTube channels; Ubongo Playroom etc)
• Upload content to the Ubongo Playroom App and YouTube channels on a weekly basis.
• Support in implementation of a digital video upload workflow
• Create upload schedules for the Ubongo Playroom App and YouTube
• Document the upload schedule for the content in annual/quarterly/monthly calendars, that can be broken down across platforms and channels
• Where possible, use the Ubongo Uploader tool to simplify the video editing/transcoding process
• Synchronise Ubongo Playroom and YouTube uploads with the Ubongo Uploader Tool.
• Set up new YouTube channels, manage and optimize these channels
• Create and update video metadata (titles, descriptions, tags, thumbnails) and playlists on the Ubongo Playroom App and YouTube
• Bulk sharing of content and metadata with several VoD platforms
• Support in the brainstorm and implementation of a digital video experience at Ubongo
• Work closely with the Digital Video Manager to produce content that generates results
• Regularly monitor and analyse analytics dashboards to identify trends and share with team
• Learn how platform algorithms work and what kind of content, metadata and scheduling works best on the platform
• Stay up to date with what’s trending in the ‘online video’ world and update the rest of the team on any new developments.
• Run experiments based on theories developed by yourself and team and share results/ learnings updates with the rest of the team
• Integrate lessons learned into daily practice and update team on this
• Ensure general adherence to YouTube’s guidelines and best practices
• Other tasks that may be assigned by Digital Video Manager
There will also be room to provide your knowledge and expertise to other teams at Ubongo.
Skills & Requirements:
TO BE A MATCH, YOU’LL NEED TO BE:
• Passionate about content creation and video!
• Equipped with at least 1+ year of experience with management of video platforms (e.g youtube channel management)
• Strong video editing skills (on Final cut pro; premier pro etc)
• Comfortable dealing with and understanding digital products (apps, video etc.)
• Extremely organized and independent, able to maintain a clear workflow, manage content, organize data, and ensure that all of this is easily accessible for Ubongo’s teams.
• Strong creative and copywriting skills and a keen eye for detail
• Knowledge on what’s trending in the digital video/children’s cartoons industry
• Extremely organized and process oriented
• Motivated individual that wants to learn and develop quickly
