JOB DETAILS:
Functional Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Head of the RNI Secretariat, the incumbent will carry out the following activities:
Strategy development & coordination
• Lead the efforts to design and inform a strategy for supporting youth empowerment for the Pacific atoll countries
• Engage national and local leaders and stakeholders to coordinate project implementation and international and regional events providing opportunities for direct advocacy, outreach, and network.
• Lead the design and advancement of a strategy to build a regional youth forum consisting of youth representatives of the Pacific atoll countries and help build a wider network with youth in the region and around the world.
Project implementation
• Prepare project proposals for the RNI Board’s consideration and approval, and manage projects and monitor and evaluate their implementation to prepare Board reports.
• Ensures the alignment of the project efforts to build partnerships for advancing the agency of frontline communities with the overall programmatic efforts of the RNI.
• Prepare updates on key progress and project developments for other RNI project activities that have interlinked deliverables. Liaises with youth stakeholders on the planning and implementing project activities requiring their participation. Ensures all operational structures, systems, and processes are in line with UNOPS policies and procedures.
• Tracks implementation of deliverables and monitors and evaluates progress.
Communications
• Tracks relevant data collection and generates analysis as relevant to achieving the strategic objectives of the RNI.
• Communicates key project developments with other RNI project teams as relevant.
• Oversees the preparation of reports on the project activities.
• Coordinates the organizing and planning of events and conferences, including the Conference of the Parties (COPs) and other conferences, meetings, side events and activities.
Expert approach
• Engage with partner institutions, including relevant UN agencies, to map existing efforts in support of the youth of the Pacific atoll countries and prepare proposals to address any shortfall or gap.
• Identify opportunities for engaging youth forums in other regions for cross-regional agenda-setting and opportunities for joint advocacy.
• Explore new partnerships that can bring best practices, expertise, and solutions to empower youth innovation.
Monitoring and Progress Controls
The contractor will be supervised by theHead of the RNI Secretariat. The contractor and the supervisor will determine progress and next step in mutual communication
Education/Experience/Language requirements:

Education
• Advanced university degree (Master’s degree) preferably in Political Science, Governance, Development or other relevant fields is required.
• Two (2) additional years of relevant experience, in combination with a relevant first-level university (bachelor’s degree or equivalent), may substitute for the requirement of a master’s degree.
Required Experience:
• At least seven (7) years of relevant professional experience in climate action, migration,culture and heritage, policy research, and/or programme/project management is required.
• Demonstrated experience in taking engagements to major international conferences (e.g. COPs, international climate events) as platforms for advocacy is required.
Desirable experience (the following experience is optional candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply):
• Experience in evidence-based approach to assessing vulnerabilities of populations preferably in the context of climate, environment or sustainable development is desired.
Language:
• Fluency in oral and written English is required.
• Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
