JOB DETAILS:
We are in search of a dedicated Psychological Counsellor to join our Arushateam and make a profound difference in these children’s lives.
Key Duties:
• Holistic Counseling: Spearhead a comprehensive counseling program, collaborating with the team, ensuring each child receives tailored professional support, addressing their unique traumas, behaviour challenges, and experiences.
• Life Skills and Sexual Health Programs: Design and execute tailored Life Skills and Sexual Health programs for children and youth, for all three groups of children.
• Group & Individual Sessions: Lead group counseling sessions at the Arusha Safe House and in the streets, and conduct regular individualized sessions for children facing severe emotional and behavioral challenges, devising strategies and follow-ups to foster positive change.
• Outreach initiatives: Engage in street and slum outreach, connecting with children and youth in their environments, building trust, and offering immediate psychological support.
• Training & Development: Facilitate professional training on counseling techniques for the entire staff, ensuring a unified approach to child care.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure the holistic well-being of every child, addressing their educational, health, and emotional needs.
Essential Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Psychological Counseling, Child Psychology OR Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Sociology from accredited institutions, complemented by specialized training in Psychological Counseling or Child Psychology.
• Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on experience counseling children with intense emotional and behavioral challenges, both individually and in groups.
• Deep understanding of the challenges faced by street-connected children and youth, including girls engaged in sex work, and children rescued from severe abuse.
• Demonstrated expertise in Life Skills and Sexual Health education for children and youth.
• Proficiency in both Kiswahili and English.
