Job Summary
To deliver performance excellence through leading a team this undertakes Reconciliations duties for the whole range of Tanzania businesses. This role will involve the management of a small complex team, so that there will be a wide range of discrete processes to be managed and the role holder may be required to work flexibly across a variety of different activities.

Job Purpose
To deliver performance excellence through leading a team this undertakes Reconciliations duties for the whole range of Tanzania businesses. This role will involve the management of a small complex team, so that there will be a wide range of discrete processes to be managed and the role holder may be required to work flexibly across a variety of different activities.

Key Responsibilities:
Delivering Operational and Service Excellence 45%
• Undertake required processing and servicing activity in accordance with set procedures. Day-to-day responsibilities will include activities such as:
• Actioning queries on outstanding items until resolution
• Escalating unresolved queries to Reconciliation Manager/Account owners
• Providing internal customers with formatted reports
• Champion a culture of operational excellence and drive teams to deliver ever-improving performance standards.
• Ensure that all team members work within relevant service level agreements and appreciate the importance of doing so.
• Comply with operational risk and rigor standards in respect of protecting people, customers, assets and the organization. Ensure team members are in compliance. Manage and ensure resolution of issues escalated by subordinates.
• Check work done by other team members for accuracy and completeness.
• Action any complaints received in accordance with procedures.
• Identify improvements to processes and procedures that will improve operational effectiveness and champion these improvements, within agreed guidelines.

Teamwork 50%
• Provide effective team leadership. Manage a small complex team to ensure efforts are co-ordinated, and ensure that team members work together to deliver results and excellent performance
• Monitor the functioning of processes within the team(s) and allocate staff to tasks as necessary to ensure work is completed as efficiently as possible
• Ensuring quality of performance, monitoring performance and ensuring fairness of assessments.
• Constantly seek to improve ways of working by challenging the status quo and supporting an empowering climate within the team(s), sharing knowledge, experience, best practice and providing constructive feedback as required
• Provide cover for other team leaders as required
• Support and adopt the implementation of change initiatives, and ensure that team members are prepared for change
• Participate in local events to support local needs, develop individual and team skills and raise the Absa profile in the local community

Manage risk and control effectively by applying applicable risk frameworks and embedding a positive risk culture
• Understanding of own role in the end to end processes in which you play a part, including applicable risks and controls.
• Adhere to Absa’s policies and procedures applicable to own role, demonstrating sound judgment and responsible risk management.
• Report all risk events / incidents / issues using the defined process for your business area and help to understand why these happened and how to prevent them in future.
• Proactively look for ways to improve the control environment by considering what could go wrong in the processes you operate and how errors could be prevented.
• Continuous and proactive engagement with regulatory bodies, unions where applicable
• Keep up to date on all regulatory changes and have the ability to articulate the impact to the Business, be well informed on the industry thinking.
• All mandatory training completed to deadline

Knowledge of the Bank’s products, services and policies and/or other specialist knowledge required to undertake the role:
• In-depth knowledge of relevant processes and procedures
• In-depth knowledge of operational risk and rigour requirements and standards applicable to the relevant processes and procedures
• Clear understanding of the team performance objectives – service level agreements and customer service targets
• Sound understanding of technical systems e.g. Brains, FOS etc.
• A good knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation e.g. KYC, Money Laundering, service standards, health and safety standards etc.
• Good knowledge of complaints handling procedure.
• Knowledge of team interfaces with other business areas, centres and branches.
• Good knowledge of Ops & IT goals and objectives.
• A broad awareness of Retail and Corporate products and services.
• Other requirements specific to the role:
• Previous experience in a Reconciliations/Finance/Audit team leadership role would be expected at this level.
