Fintrac, a leading US-based agriculture consulting firm with long-term programs in Africa, Asia and Central America, is seeking a Regional Technical Coordinator (Project Manager) for the 4-year, Feed the Future Tanzania Mboga na Matunda activity.

JOB DETAILS:

Responsibilities:
The Regional Technical Coordinator (Project Manager) will be based at the Iringa Office and reports to the Deputy Chief of Party. In addition to the specific tasks stated below, he/she is expected to contribute fully as a program team member, conducting himself/herself in a proper manner at all times as a representative of the program, and is responsible for the safe-keeping and care of all program assets assigned to him/her. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage and coordinate the regional activities of value chain specialists (Agronomists, Market Facilitators, Processing Specialists, and Finance and Credit Specialists) as per the agreed work plan. This requires frequent visits to the field for supervisory visits to ensure that the work plan activities are executed on time and according to the expected quality.

  • Synchronize the activities of these specialists with private sector companies that are partnering with our program (e.g. agro-input companies, processors, & exporters)
  • Organize regular events such as field days, regional chapter meetings and train-the-trainer activities.
  • Assist in developing strategic plans for project interventions within the region.
  • Where appropriate, collaborate with regional/district government authorities and with other development activities working in the region. Manage shared activities within the region.
  • Report on activities occurring within the region on a weekly basis and identify individuals and outcomes that can be highlighted in success stories. Ensure that the region’s staff are submitting photos on a regular basis to the communication manager for dissemination and archiving.
  • Collaborate with senior managers to identify the need for use of specialist short-term technical assistance (STTA) consultants to provide technical services not found within the project staff. Assist in the preparation of the STTA documents to USAID.
  • Supervise the Finance and Credit Specialist in your region and work with him/her to meet agreed-upon targets. You will also be expected to help decide on specific interventions most likely to stimulate lending activity in horticulture value chains.

Supervise the Processing specialist when he/she is operating in your region. This includes overseeing the proper utilization of Tech Fund 3 funds by selected SMEs in your region.

Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Deputy Chief of Party.

Key Qualifications & Characteristics:

  • University qualifications in an appropriate field (e.g. horticulture, rural development, food science, marketing, business administration & management).
  • At least five years in rural development in Tanzania. Strong preference is given to candidates with proven private sector credentials.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills.
  • Good communicator with the ability to work with people from different backgrounds.
  • Dynamic, self-starter who is always looking for work and who sets goals and makes sure they are achieved.

Physically fit and capable of a demanding work schedule in the field.
