PCT owns and operates a pyrethrum processing factory in Mafinga, Mufindi District, Iringa region, Tanzania; and is in the Pyrethrum business including pyrethrum farming and processing in Tanzania and is a subsidiary of McLaughlin Gormley King Company (MGK), a leading global producer and marketer for Pyrethrum products.

JOB DETAILS:
PCT is seeking to fill the position of Responsible Care Coordinator reporting to the Deputy General Manager.

The primary purpose:
The primary purpose of this position is to monitor and assess hazardous and unsafe situations and developing measures to assure personnel safety. To ensure the Site Safety and Health Plan is prepared and implemented.

Scope and Impact:
The Responsible Care Coordinator assesses risk and possible safety hazards of all factory and audit the operations and keeping on the lookout for unsafe behavior and violations of safety regulations. The Responsible Care Coordinator will progressively develop and ensure the Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are maintained and communicated to all employees,

Essential Functions:

  • Auditing all operations, keeping on the lookout for any unsafe behavior or violations of safety regulations
  • Assessing risk and possible safety hazards of all aspects of all factory and farming operations
  • Meeting company health and safety goals Inspecting production equipment and processes to make sure they are safe
  • Ordering repairs for unsafe and/or damaged equipment
  • Focusing on accident prevention and employee training Use labels, signs, posters, floor marking, and color coding to warn employees about potential hazards.
  • Develop and ensure that Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are maintained and communicated to employees.
  • Ensuring the company is in full compliance with OSHA's and employer's parent company responsible care requirements and standards.
  • Organize workplace safety and health activities.
  • Ensure that managers/supervisors provide safety training and information to workers.
  • Investigating all near misses and other safety-related incidents that may occur.
  • Conduct documented safety inspections, audits, meetings and safety talks.
  • Ensure that all of the employer's OHSE i.e. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act), NEMC (National Environment Management Council) Act; Fire and Rescue Act and other safety mandated responsibilities are met.
  • Keep a record of any safety violations and good safety practices

Education:

  • Minimum Required: Diploma OR a Bachelor's degree holder in Health and Safety or equivalent from a recognized institution. Knowledge/experience in Occupational Health and Safety compliance will be an added advantage.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum Required: At least 2-year experience working with manufacturing industries /companies in a similar or related role.

Skill
Specialized skills/Knowledge needed for Performance of Job:

  • High level of discretion with confidential and sensitive information;
  • High level of diplomacy required with the ability to manage relationships in a positive manner;
  • Excellent knowledge of occupational health and safety.
  • Critical thinker and fast learner and ability to help workers in and around their work activities
  • Able to troubleshoot problems, whilst also identifying issues which need to be escalated;
  • Exceptional work ethic and attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including strong written and verbal communication with ability to articulate issues
  • Fluent in Kiswahili, with good command of English language (spoken and written) to participate in meetings and communicate with supervisors, management and external safety auditors.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel etc.)
