Position: Specialist 1 – Crane & Lifting Training

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
Liaising with Snr Rigging Specialist to identify and assess training and development needs relating to Cranes & lifting Operations on the mine site. Delivering and overseeing the training of individuals or groups of employees and contractors. Compiling and presenting information. Implementing, advising on, and monitoring appraisal of both 3rd party and internal training schemes. The role also requires to training, assess and where necessary offer support to learners engaged in lifting and rigging courses. The role will also develop course delivery material and ensure compliance with awarding body standards per OSHA Act 2003.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of an Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSEE) or higher.
• Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Rigging, or equivalent qualification.
• Valid Crane Operator’s Certificate.
• Registered Rigger with an approved board.
• Scaffolding Certification.
• International qualification as a Rigger/Ropesman.
• Level 3 International Rigging Certificate.
• Certified Technical Test Invigilator and Examiner by the ECITB or equivalent .
• Valid Tanzania driving license (Class B, D, E, F).

EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in crane and rigging operations, preferably within the mining industry or a similar field.
• At least 4 years of formal training in cranes, lifting, and rigging.
• A minimum of 5 years’ working experience as a Rigger/Ropesman and Crane Operator.
• 1 year of supervisory experience in lifting operations, ideally within the mining or a related industry.

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Training, development, and coaching
• Accountable for the scheduling of training and development of inline direct reports and coach identifiable and recognized skills gaps. (Crane, hoist and lifting equipment operators) internal courses.
• Conduct performance examination and hands-on performance tests for Rigging and Lifting programs to ensure personnel are properly qualified and maintain the certification s of individuals working on Rigging and Lifting Industry
• Prepare detailed training syllabus, training manuals, digital presentation, and other related student’s materials and manage both physical and electronic training records.
• Manage trainees that have reported for training.
• Ensuring safety and environmental incidents are reported promptly.

Third party Statutory training
• Liaise with 3rd party training facilitators ensuring candidates preparation for theory and practical examinations.
• Manage and facilitate 3rd party training projects.
• To train, assess and where necessary offer support to learners engaged in lifting and rigging courses.
• Conducting training needs assessment
• Conduct field, classroom trainings as well as scheduling training materials and carry out assessments and ensure issuance of relevant certifications.

Inspections, Trainings and Reporting
• Measure levels of instruction by continuous performance review and assessments. Maintain personnel portfolios as evidence.
• Trainings on Wire Rope Slings and Proper Use, Synthetic Web Slings and Proper Use, Synthetic Round Slings and Proper Use, Chain Slings and Proper Use, Rigging Hardware and Proper Use, Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices, Pre-Use Sling and Gear Inspection, Softeners and Sling Protection, Sling Hitches and Applications, How to Verify the Working Load Limit Sling & Hardware Rating Charts, Sling Angles and their Effect on Rigging, Load Balance, and Centre of Gravity, How to Determine Load Weight, Understanding the Fall Zone, Taglines and Their Proper Use, Power Line Safety
• Trainings on manufacturer’s instructions, limitations, specifications and recommendations and other related OEM Manuals
• Training on Assembly/Disassembly per OSHA Act 2003.
• Training and coaching on developing Lifting and Rigging Standard Operating Procedures
• Conducting planned task observations (PTOs).
• Ensuring all training materials are complying with ISO 18001 Certifications

Legislative requirements
• Instruct operatives on their obligations with respect to statutory requirements relating to Lifting Operations, Tanzania Mining regulations and OSHA ,2003(No.05 of 2003, Section 14-22)

Safety and Procedural Enforcement
• Always promote a culture of safety and practice zero tolerance to noncompliance.
• Training on proper use and pre-use inspection of rigging gears, slings and below-the-hook lifting devices to ensure those who complete training is competent.
• Ensure safe operation of all equipment under trainers’ supervision.

Supervision of work practices and people management
• Practice supervision as per company values and How We Work principles at all times promoting excellence in all processes with a zero-negative impact on both people safeguarding, costing and productive output.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Proficient in MS Office and CAD software.
• Strong command of English (written and spoken).
• Experience in rigging operations and knowledge of mining regulations.
• Skills in strategic management, training assessment, and development of training materials.
• Proficient in presentation, facilitation, and organizational skills.
• Knowledgeable in health and safety, OSHA Act 2003, ISO 18001 certifications, and e-learning platforms.
• Strong skills in communication, conflict resolution, planning, and decision-making.
• Detail-oriented, proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
• Team player with the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and explain technical concepts to non-technical staff.
• Commitment to safety, health, environment (SHE) performance, and gold production objectives.
