Summary of the Role
The Teaching Assistant position demands proficiency in various educational technology and innovation tools, along with excellent communication skills and a solid understanding of best teaching practices. The Teaching Assistant will work closely with the lead teacher to support student learning, communicate progress, ensure the safety of all learners, and contribute to the development of lesson plans within the context of IST.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience
(a) Experience: 4+ years’ of teaching experience.
(b) Must have a Bachelor's Degree and relevant teaching certification.
(c) PYP training/experience is desirable.
(d) Proficiency in using a variety of educational technology tools and platforms, such as laser cutters, 3D Printers, and Robotics .

Professional Competencies:
(a) Excellent communication skills in spoken and written form.
(b) Sound decision-making, solutions-focused, knowledge of child protection and health and safety.
(c) Solid understanding of classroom activities and teaching best practices.
(d) Systems setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting for technological devices and machines.
(e) Knowledge and skills are needed to operate a variety of technology tools and applications.

Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant at IST Elementary School will include but are not limited to:
(a) Have consistent work attendance and arrive promptly.
(b) Collaborate on lesson plans.
(c) Engage with students in a caring and professional manner.
(d) Supervise duties both in and out of the classroom (Ubunifu Lab).
(e) Take on appropriate tasks as directed by the supervising teacher or Vice Principal.

Areas of Responsibility
Whenever necessary and at the discretion of the classroom teacher, the responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant will include but not be limited to, the following:
(a) Work with the lead teacher to monitor the class schedule.
(b) Assist teachers with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment.
(c) Revise lesson material with students individually or in small groups.
(d) Ensure the classroom environment is safe and clean.
(e) Oversee students during non-classroom times including in-between classes, during lunch, and on field excursions.
(f) Collaborate with lead teachers to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions.
(g) Document student progress and communicate with lead teachers to keep parents informed.
(h) Help lead teachers to create lesson plans.
(i) Comply with government and school regulations, and classroom agreements.
(j) Attend all professional development sessions and meetings.

Whenever necessary and at the discretion of the Elementary Vice Principal, the Teaching Assistant is accountable for:
(a) Attendance at staff meetings and parent evenings.
(b) Supervision of children at break/after school in a safe and punctual manner.

For the Teaching Assistant to meet these expectations, the Classroom Teacher is also held accountable for:
(a) Communicate, openly, and honestly with the Teaching Assistant.
(b) Meeting with the Teaching Assistant at the start of the year to discuss responsibilities and expectations for the year.
(c) Actively encouraging respectful interactions between the Teaching Assistant and all members of the community.
(d) Meet regularly with the TA to discuss plans, overviews, and reflections on practice.
Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects as requested by the Vice Principal.
