Vi Agroforestry Partners Capacity Building On Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Techniques

Introduction

Vi Agroforestry uses “Agroforestry” as the main approach to “Fight poverty and climate change together” with the special focus to smallholder farmer families (including women, youth and children).

Invasive pests are on the rise as a result of climate change, which could lead to increased use of agrochemicals in production and postharvest handling. This could have a greater negative impact on the environment, human health, and biodiversity.

To lessen this, Vi Agroforestry is planning to conduct a capacity building session for her partners on Agrochemical free production in Musoma, Mara region from 26^th to 29^th August 2024. The training shall take place at the Agroforestry training centre with space and demonstration plots for hands-on. Her partners deal with diverse of value chains with respect to localities (cereals, vegetables, fruits, spices etc.), and with promotion of agroforestry and SALM practices. The course is expected to have 25 participants.

With these background Vi Agroforestry is seeking an individual consultant to capacitate her partners on IPM concept and techniques with Agrochemical free emphasize during the training sessions.

We looking for an individual who has:

• Demonstrated experience on the development of IPM kits on related value chains; organic pest control experienced is of highest interest.
• Experience on facilitating the capacity building session to extension workers and development organizations.
• Experience on biopesticides and biological control agents for agricultural production.
• Experience on pesticide research and knowledge transfer for the research technologies in agriculture perspective

Our expectations: 

The following are the tasks that we expect the facilitator to deliver.

1. A Review of the existing IPM documents and customize (Research, repositories and relevant IPM kits)
2. Development of a sample IPM Packages for one selected for crop groups (cereal crops, Vegetables and Fruit crops)
3. Preparation of the IPM training materials such as notes and slides.
4. Facilitation of the session on general concept of IPM, Practical development of IPM Kit with a sample kit.
5. Facilitate practical application of IPM techniques and share experience on how these techniques works.

Additional requirement:

• 3 IPM Packages guide for cereals, vegetable and fruit (preferably: Maize, Tomato, and Avocado),
• 3 IPM training materials (slide presentation and notes (Brochures, and Posters) on IPM),
• Experience sharing/Facilitation report (Covering the two days).

Timing and Duration of this Assignment

• The duration for the agrochemical free training is 4 days, whereby, the IPM sessions will take 2 days (27th and 28th August).
