Gatsby Africa’s Textile Programe focused on securing the growth of Tanzania’s textile and garment industry, This is an ambitious and complex development programme, seeking to establish the conditions for a competitive, inclusive and resilient Textile sector, with a high calibre team already in place.
Gatsby Africa is seeking a new Programme Director to oversee and deliver the expansion of this programme. The Textile PD will lead strategy development, oversee implementation and develop effective working relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, key businesses, donors and potential investors. This is an opportunity to use your skills, experience and creativity in an environment with huge scope for innovation to build relationships and influence change at various levels across the private sector and government
The ideal candidates will have at least 10-15 years‘ work experience at managerial level in industry GR private sector consultancy OR development project management. ‘They will be strategic thinkers with sound judgement, private sector DNA and an ability to rapidly grasp a new way cl working and different strategic goals, coupled with substantive exposure to operational challenges in private sector development.
This is a critical people management rote, requiring excellent strategic leadership and people management skills, including mentoring and coaching skills, as well as a track record of building relationships at the roost senior level across the private sector, governments and donors. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills and polished written and verbal communication skills in English. Fluency in Kiswahili and substantial experience oi working closely with the Tanzanian government is a significant advantage. Understanding of trade policy and investment promotion approaches, and some experience of working in or with the textile and garments sector would also be a distinct advantage, as would experience of leading projects to enhance competitiveness in relevant sectors.
