JOB DETAILS:
Chemonics International, a US-based international development consulting firm seeks a Workforce Development (Objective 1) Director for the anticipated USAID NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora (Better Supply, Better Health) activity to be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This activity aims to strengthen supply chain and pharmaceutical services to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, affordable health commodities and will work to develop the capacity of local systems, institutions, and individuals to sustainably manage supply chains, for both USAID-procured health commodities and those procured through national/local systems, and to strengthen local pharmaceutical management systems, including quality pharmaceutical services and national regulatory systems.
The Workforce Development Director will report to the Deputy Chief of Party and lead the project objectives related to Objective 1: Tanzania’s public health supply chain and pharmaceutical management workforce is skilled, motivated, and equipped with the tools necessary to conduct supply chain and pharmaceutical management activities effectively. They will be responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation, and direction of the project’s workforce development activities.
Key responsibilities:
• Provide oversight of the project’s workforce development activities
• Design and implement sustainable and effective capacity building approaches such as supportive supervision, mentoring, coaching, and in-service and pre-service trainings
• Ensure workforce development is managed systemically by addressing issues such as low motivation and poor retention
• Support development and tracking of supply chain related competencies
• Develop plans, policies, procedures, and recommendations
• Build and sustain workable partnerships with leaders, and staff across regions and functions
Required Qualifications
• Advanced degree in public health, supply chain management, institutional development, business management, finance, or related field or minimum or 10 years in related professional experience
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on supply chain/pharmaceutical management projects
• Demonstrated knowledge of USAID rules and regulations
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
• Experience working in Tanzania and deep knowledge of geo-political, ethnic, cultural, and other considerations affecting programming in Tanzania and the region is required
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Fluency in English required, Swahili desirable
