JOB DETAILS:

The Zonal Project Manager will be responsible for providing technical support of the Building an Economically-Sustainable Seed System in Tanzania for Cassava (BEST Cassava) project in the zone. He /she will provide technical input on the implementation of the project in Tanzania in a manner consistent with MEDA’s philosophy and development methodology. The Zonal Manager will provide support the AFF day to day activities with the Cassava Seed Entrepreneurs in the project area. The Zonal Manager will report to the Field Project Manager.
Core Responsibilities

Strategy and Performance – The ZM will ensure

  • Recruitment and selection of appropriate farmers to become CSEs
  • A robust training program on agronomy and business
  • Recruited CSEs have been registered as seed dealer by the MoALF
  • CSEs are linked with TOSCI for registration and inspections
  • Backstopping, mentoring and monitoring for effective agronomic and business practices of CSEs
  • Provide marketing and promotion support through seed grower’s associations
  • Build to strengthen the capacity of seed grower’s associations
  • Provide training to MALF staff on commercialization and supervise them
    Management of other staff
  • Their performance - motivation, coaching
  • Staff annual review (with FPM)
  • Ensuring compliance with MEDA procedures

Administration

  • Operation of Zonal Office
  • Representing MEDA in the local area business, government, other stakeholders
  • Preparing monthly plans for the respective Zone and staff (to be approved by FPM)
  • Prepare monthly budget to correspond with activities in workplan
  • Monitor expenses to budget - (staff expenses, vehicle, programming)
  • Monitoring and Evaluation / Reporting/
  • Ensuring timely and accurate Data collection at all sites
  • Monthly progress Zone report – posted on SP
  • Tracking M&E against Performance targets and keeping FPM advised

Requirements:

  • A Bachelors’ degree in a relevant subject e.g. Agronomy, Agriculture general, Agribusiness
  • A Minimum of 4 years’ professional experience of working with Research, agri-business, marketing and farmer organizations in East Africa.
  • Knowledge & practical experience of Cassava agronomy, Research, Plant protections, Value Chain Development
  • Good command of spoken and written English
  • Good communication/social skills; Good familiarity with the area the project/program is situated

  • Academic level of working and thinking, based on acceptable levels;
