About the role
The Building Rights for Improved Girls’ Health in Tanzania (BRIGHT) Project targets all 8 councils of Tabora region and is implemented by Nutrition International (NI) in partnership with the Government of Tanzania as well as Engender Health (EH), and Young and Alive Initiative (YAI) The BRIGHT project is an innovative collaboration with the aim of improving the health and well-being and advancing the rights of adolescent girls in Tanzania. The BRIGHT project is being implemented over a seven-year period and is mid-way through the project. It is funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada (GAC).
Under the supervision of Practice Area Director, Maternal and Neonatal Health and Nutrition (MNHN) based in Canada, the BRIGHT Technical Advisor (Nutrition) is responsible for coordinating the access to Nutrition International expertise and external experts for priority activities. The Technical Advisor (Nutrition) will be the nutrition technical focal point for the BRIGHT Project and is expected to work closely with NI’s BRIGHT Project Director, all relevant Senior Technical Advisors, NI’s Regional Advisor-Adolescent and Women’s Health and Nutrition, NI’s Regional and Head Office Gender and Equality Advisors, as well as the Tanzania based BRIGHT Project Nutrition and MEAL Officers, and Country Director to support the quality implementation of NI-led and supported activities.
Responsibilities:
• Provide gender sensitive nutrition technical assistance to strengthen the NI-led work as guided by senior technical advisors.
• Coordinate and monitor provision of technical advice by NI or other external experts to project staff in support of the implementation of NI-led work as per BRIGHT annual work plans and budget.
• Provide technical assistance in program monitoring and implementation of adolescent, maternal health, and nutrition services.
• Develop, maintain, and implement a plan/s developed by the BRIGHT research/technical coordination team, organize regular meetings and document decisions to inform the Research and Project workplans
• Contribute, as delegated, to knowledge translation documents such as policy briefs, summary briefs, blogs, and case studies on topics that include, but are not limited to, formative research, behavior change intervention strategies, supply chain management, health management information systems, nutrition policies, gender equality and gender equity issues related to health in nutrition
• Coordinate the quality assurance/technical review of all knowledge products produced by the BRIGHT Project among relevant members of NI technical staff.
About You;
You have;
• Postgraduate level degree, masters/doctorate, from a recognized university in nutrition or public health (with emphasis on nutrition). Other relevant discipline will be considered with significant relevant experience. ecnSavA DmwvJ2
• At least 5 years of experience in programs relating to adolescent health and nutrition, and/or maternal health and nutrition, and/or SRH and nutrition in low- and middle- income countries or low resource settings, including at least 2 years of field experience.
• Experience and sound understanding of health systems.
• Experience and sound understanding of girls’ and women’s health and equity issues Successful completion of work assignments in at least one developing country or resource setting.
• Experience with managing or conducting research is an asset.
• Experience with gender responsive (nutrition or public health) program design and implementation is an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, tact and discretion
• Ability to work in cross disciplinary and cross-cultural teams, including at a distance
• Strong critical thinking skills and attention to details
• Ability to communicate to a variety of audiences orally and in writing, including the general public (e.g. blogs), country-level decision-makers (e.g. evidence briefs) and scientific (e.g. publishable manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals
