JOB DESCRIPTION
The Robert Gallo Maternal Aids Healthcare Initiatives is a leading non-profit organization working to improve health care of 2.5 million mothers infected with HIV in Lesotho, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, Brazil, Guatemala, India and Sri Lanka. Working together with national partners to strengthen health systems and community capacities, we are committed to scientific evidence and policy dialogue both as foundations and objectives of our work

The Community workers assume a pivotal role in the coordination and implementation of the outreach services through a mobile health van. The Boresha Afya Project in Tanzania will support the local health authorities to provide health care in a culturally appropriate way to the hard-to-reach population through mobile clinic and outreach activities, combined with interventions to strengthen facility-based quality of care to ensure a continuum of care is established.

Key responsibilities
• Providing personalized assistance to infected mothers facing physical, emotional, or social challenges.
• Supporting daily living activities and fostering a sense of independence.
• Offering emotional support and being a compassionate listener.
• Advocating for infected mother’s needs and rights within the community.
• Connecting individuals with appropriate resources, services, and programs.
• Collaborating with other professionals to ensure comprehensive mother's care.
• Assisting with navigating healthcare systems and appointments.
• Facilitating community engagement and social interaction.
• Developing and implementing support plans tailored to individual needs.
• Monitoring progress and adjusting strategies as circumstances evolve.
• Providing guidance for skill-building and personal development.
• Educating mothers on self-care techniques and coping strategies.
• Promoting inclusion, diversity, and cultural sensitivity.
• Addressing crisis situations and offering immediate support.
• Maintaining accurate documentation of interactions and progress.

Skill & Experience
Empathy and Compassion: The ability to connect with individuals and understand their challenges with genuine care and empathy is crucial.
• Communication Skills: Effective communication, both verbal and written, is essential for building rapport, conveying information, and collaborating with clients and colleagues.
Problem-Solving: Community Support Workers need to think critically and creatively to find solutions to various challenges clients may face.
• Cultural Sensitivity: Respect for diverse backgrounds and an understanding of cultural differences is vital in providing inclusive support.
Listening Skills: Active listening helps CSWs comprehend clients’ needs, concerns, and preferences accurately.
• Time Management: Balancing multiple tasks and responsibilities requires strong organizational and time management skills.

Education Qualifications
• Diploma from an accredited school required; or any Bachelor degree
• Two (2) years of experience
• Strong follow through skills and ability to proactively identify and solve problems; demonstrated initiative is imperative
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel, electronic health systems and databases used in research environment.
• Possess the ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, and manage deadlines
